Amir Khan sends message to Manny Pacquiao over Floyd Mayweather rematch

Manny Pacquiao is in talks to fight Floyd Mayweather but Amir Khan wants to hijack the fight and come out of retirement to take on the Filipino himself

Amir Khan has called on Manny Pacquiao to fight HIM instead of Floyd Mayweather.

Pacquiao has confirmed he is in talks with his bitter rival for a rematch of their underwhelming 2015 clash. The fight could take place at The Sphere in Las Vegas in April with Netflix interested in showing the sequel, 10 years after Mayweather outpointed Pacquiao in Sin City.

But Khan has taken to social media to plead with the Filipino to take another direction. "Let's go, Manny Pacquiao," he wrote. "I’m up for one final dance but only with you as my partner. You’re still talking rematch with Floyd? Let’s make OUR fight that never happened. This is the ONLY one that gets me out of retirement - it’s what the fans always wanted."

Khan has not fought since he was stopped by Kell Brook three years ago. The former world champion chased a fight with Pacquiao and Mayweather throughout his career but could never tempt either man into the ring.

Filipino Pacquiao ended his four-year retirement this summer when he battled to a draw with welterweight world champion Mario Barrios. Mayweather, meanwhile, has not fought professionally since his 50th win over Conor McGregor in 2017 but has since toured the lucrative exhibition circuit.

Confirming he is in talks with Mayweather, who has also announced he will take on heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in an exhibition bout next year, Pacquiao told Seconds Out : “Right now, it’s in negotiations. It depends on whether we can understand each other.

"My people and his people [are] directly coordinating. “It’s very interesting, because right now I don’t have a shoulder problem, so it’s a good fight,” he continued, referencing an apparent injury that he carried into the 2015 fight. I’m sure the world of boxing will be excited if the rematch will happen soon.

"He has his own decision, so I cannot prevent him from fighting Mike Tyson. [We are] almost agreeing with each other, but there are a few details we are still negotiating. Probably it will happen in Las Vegas. There’s also a negotiation with [former world champion Vasyl] Lomachenko for an exhibition. But the Mayweather thing that we are negotiating right now is a real fight.”
