Brit who died after drinking limoncello revealed horror symptom - in her EYES

Greta Marie Otteson told her family she had "the worst hangover ever" and was experiencing "black spots" in her vision - hours later she and fiancé Arno Els Quinton were dead

A British woman who died with her fiancé after allegedly being poisoned by methanol-laced limoncello told her family about a symptom she believed was just a bad hangover.

Greta Marie Otteson, 33, and Arno Els Quinton, 36, had moved to Hoi An, Vietnam, in February 2024, taking out a lease out on the red-roofed Silverbell Villa, a nine-bedroom ten minutes from Hoi An Ancient Town, a Unesco world heritage site. But they were tragically discovered dead by resort staff on Boxing Day - just three weeks after their engagement.

Two bottles of limoncello were delivered to the hotel reception from a different restaurant, cops said. And the next morning Greta texted her parents saying she was suffering "the worst hangover ever" and was experiencing "black spots" in her vision.

The couple reportedly decided to "sleep off" the symptoms but hotel staff found the couple dead hours later. Greta, from Wales, was discovered lifeless in her bed and Arno in a nearby room.

According to investigators, the couple's deaths were caused by methanol poisoning from contaminated alcohol, believed to be "homemade" limoncello purchased from a local restaurant on Christmas Eve. Two bottles of limoncello were delivered to the hotel reception from a different restaurant, local police said.

A photograph posted online of the restaurant’s menu shows it offers the liqueur, which is mainly produced in southern Italy and is listed alongside the word “homemade” in brackets. The menu says it costs 85,000 Vietnamese dong per shot — around £2.70 — but reviews say free shots are given to customers after meals.

The restaurant believed to have supplied the limoncello remains open, meanwhile no arrests have been made. The families of the tragic couple are now calling for justice. "Our aim is to bring the people who supplied the alcohol and killed Greta and Arno to justice," said Paul.

Heartbreaking final social media posts had detailed how the pair were enjoying their life in Vietnam as an engaged couple. In an Instagram post in April, Greta wrote: “Still pinching myself that I’m here.” And months later on December 3 - weeks before they were found the dead - the couple announced their engagement. A smitten Greta wrote on Instagram: “Life lately, spoiler I said yes."

The couple also posted a romantic video on YouTube celebrating their engagement, showing the couple walking hand-in-hand and dancing on a beach together. Video production company Red Eye said: "This shoot was charged with so much emotion, reminding us how powerful the union of two souls can be. We will miss you great souls."

And a few weeks later on December 19, Arno wrote on Facebook: “Life is kinda wild. I feel 12 but somehow I have a soon to be wife, living in a foreign country, rescued a dog from the meat market, developing a game, having a games night with friends.”
