'My Uber driver turned up late and I couldn't believe my eyes when I got in his car'

An Uber passenger has take to Reddit to share a photo that appears to show their driver watching a film while behind the wheel - which perhaps explains why they took a wrong turn

A viral photo appears to show an Uber driver watching a film mid-drive on a journey he showed up late for.

Reddit user Deep-Raspberry6303 shared the snap in the r/mildlyinfuriating forum, and claimed it showed his Uber driver enjoying some TV behind the wheel. He suggested this is perhaps why the driver took a wrong turn and turned up late.

The post, which received almost 8,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments, was captioned: "I wonder why my Uber driver took a wrong turn and was late." Members of the forum were equally outraged and puzzled.

One user wrote: "I mean I’m pretty sure Uber has rules against watching movies while you drive. But maybe they don’t." The original poster replied: "They most definitely do. I asked him to turn it off and then reported it." They also revealed the film was, apparently, a 'Mission: Impossible' feature, though it is unclear which one.

The original poster later revealed the film was playing when he was getting into the car, but they are not sure if the driver had been watching on route to pick them up. But the film was playing when they set off, prompting the Reddit user to ask for it to be switched off.

"It was playing when I opened the door and sat down," they said. "I had to ask him to turn it off."

Uber has been contacted for comment.

Others shared their own horror taxi experiences, with one revealing they had a driver "doom scrolling" without a seatbelt. They wrote: "Still not as bad as having a Grab driver who is doom scrolling TikTok and driving at the same time like I’ve encountered in the Philippines, oh and no seat belts."

Another added: "That happened to me several times. One of the worst rides is the driver is doom scrolling on TikTok while his center console is playing an afternoon drama."
