Tributes have been flooding in for a Huddersfield mum, hailed as a 'warrior woman' for her work at a street kitchen, who tragically passed away while on a family holiday.
Kristen Jennifer, 41, from Almondbury, Huddersfield, was enjoying a family holiday in Turkey in September when she began having difficulty breathing. Tragically, she died abroad on September 30.
Since her passing, heartfelt tributes have been pouring in from her family and volunteers at Huddersfield Street Kitchen, where she was seen as an "integral" part of the 'volunteer family'. Her two young sons described her as "a best friend as well as a mum".
Kristen's family lauded her positive attitude and readiness to help "anybody and everybody". A close family member said: "Family for us is the heart of everything. She was a massive animal lover, and her children were the heart and soul of her life."
Before her untimely death, Kristen had dedicated five years to supporting the local food initiative, Huddersfield Street Kitchen. Founder Danny Burrows, 43, had "nothing but praise for Kristen" - who all the volunteers saw as a "little sister.", reports Yorkshire Live.
Danny said: "For Kristen, it wasn't about serving food. It was about getting out in the community and having a chat with people.
"She would always go the extra mile - visiting people to give them extra food or helping those who were sick. In the kitchen, we are like one massive family, and Kristen was our little sister."
Since her passing, volunteers at the kitchen have launched a weekly 'Kristen's Night Kitchen service'; already serving hot meals on Thursdays, the extra evening was created in Kristen's memory. Danny stated: "Kristen had always wanted to open the kitchen on another night, so we started the night kitchen last week, as Kristen would have wanted."
The team has also launched a GoFundMe, dedicated to supporting Kristen's family during this challenging time. In the online tribute, the team at Huddersfield Street Kitchen penned: "Kristen Jennifer was a warrior woman and an important part of Huddersfield Street Kitchen."
The GoFundMe says: "Kristen Jennifer was a warrior woman and an important part of Huddersfield street kitchen. Sadly unexpectedly she died recently. And we are raising money to give a legacy and support her two boys and family during this time. Money raised will be passed to her family. She was an animal lover and into her horses which she loved and looked after."
