Musk bought Twitter to 'help humanity'
Elon Musk's much publicised aquisition of Twitter in October 2022 for a reported $44billion (£37.9bn) resulted in an overhaul of the social media platform everyone was used to - not least when he changed its name to 'X'.
He said about his new company at the time: "In the relentless pursuit of clicks, much of traditional media has fuelled and catered to those polarised extreme views, as they believe that is what brings in money, but, in doing so, the opportunity for dialogue is lost.
"That is why I bought Twitter. I didn't do it because it would be easy. I didn't do it to make more money. I did it to try to help humanity, whom I love.
"I do so with humility, recognising that failure in pursuit of this goal, despite our best efforts, is a very real possibility.
"That said, Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences."
Reports of issues continue to drop
Users of X/Twitter are continuing to report problems on Downdetector - but at a much slower rate.
There are 42 reports as of 5:11pm. The baseline is 5, so the logged issues still remains way over this figure.
Users 'blamed Musk' for last X/Twitter outage
The last major outage for users on X/Twitter happned a few months ago in May, according to Downdetector data.
At the time, some who managed to post from their X profile amid the chaos were quick to point the finger at Elon Musk. One user wrote: "Remember when apps were down and we would come to Twitter to make sure it was down for everyone? Now Twitter is down ever since Elon got it."
