Keir Starmer faced a PMQs grilling on Wednesday after a sex offender who was mistakenly released from prison was deported back to Ethiopia.
Hadush Kebatu sparked a two-day manhunt after he was wrongly let out of HMP Chelmsford on Friday, instead of being sent to an immigration detention centre. He was deported on Tuesday night, with no right to return to the UK.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said her department had failed to meet the "crises" it has faced in recent years and is "not yet fit for purpose”.
Despite the issue, Kemi Badenoch instead focused on the economy.

Reform UK criticised over plans to slash benefits
Reform UK's draconian plans to scrap Pip payments for people with anxiety are "already falling apart", Labour has claimed.
Zia Yusuf, the party’s head of policy, has pledged a sweeping crackdown on benefits, which he says could save £9 billion a year by 2029.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday alongside Lee Anderson MP claimed only those with serious anxiety should get benefits. However, while the pair promised all appointments would be face-to-face, a policy document from Reform admitted that only the “vast majority [of] assessments are face to face.”

Keir Starmer faces Tory opponent for PMQs

It's been a difficult week for the Government, after migrant sex offender Hadush Kebatu was wrongly freed from prison, sparking a two-day manhunt.
The Ethiopian national was deported overnight, and will have no right to return to the UK, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood confirmed this morning.
