'I got £39 worth of Asda food for just £4 - other shoppers are missing out'

In a post published in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, the shopper explained how she bagged the super cheap shop

Food prices continue to rise - but one Asda shopper has revealed how she managed to bag £39 worth of Asda groceries for just £4.

The impressive haul included BBQ skewers, bread rolls, pasta and vegetables. In a post published in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, the shopper explained how she bagged the super cheap shop by using the Too Good To Go app.

Too Good To Go is an app that allows you to buy a mystery bag of excess food that retailers haven't been able to sell, but is still perfectly safe to eat. The catch is, you don't know what will be inside your bag - it all depends on what is available on the day.

Some of the other big retailers that feature on the Too Good To Go app include Costa Coffee, Greggs and Marks and Spencer.

The shopper said: "Definitely one of my best hauls tonight from the '2 good to go app' (asda) and worth the walk in the rain. £39 of goods for £4."

Other bargain hunters were impressed with her purchase, with one person replying: "Great save, well done." Another commented: "I would be banging that in my freezer except the salad of course."

We previously reported on how another shopper used Too Good To Go to get more than £100 worth of products from a central London branch of Gail's bakery for just £5.

The bag included six loaves of bread, two plain croissants, eight blueberry and custard brioche buns, four chocolate muffins and one blueberry muffin. There was also a mix of six different salads or chia pots.

Another man managed to get seven bags filled with plain croissants, almond croissants, chocolate twists, a cinnamon roll and a Halloween cake pop from Starbucks for £5.90. He also received six trays of chocolate and caramel shortbread.

How to save money in the supermarkets

  • Keep an eye out for yellow sticker deals.
  • Look for discounts and voucher codes through websites like LatestDeals and HotUKDeals.
  • Sign up to mailing lists for brands and retailers you frequently use.
  • Pick up free supermarket magazines - they often have vouchers inside.
  • Try the Downshift challenge - this is where you swap branded goods for supermarket-own labels.
  • Meal prep to reduce impulse buys and spending on what you've already got in the cupboard.
  • Freeze any leftovers that can be eaten at a later date to avoid food waste.
