There'll be events across the globe to mark St Patrick' Day, but there's still only one destination to party in style... the Emerald Isle.

Dublin has a packed programme over six days. On Sunday, March 14, the festival will host the Big Day Out, with street theatre in Merrion Square. There will also be a city-wide treasure hunt, a spectacular firework display and a giant parade.

For a touch of the high life, book into Cheryl Cole's favourite Dublin hotel, The Dylan (www.dylan.ie) in Ballsbridge. A room plus B&B costs from £190 this St Patrick's Day (£170 without breakfast).

Just a 15-minute stroll from the city centre, the stunning Victorian building has a super-cool bar and restaurant and enough style to make everyone happy - from celebs to celeb-watchers. It's the perfect base from which to see the city.

For those wanting to explore the rest of Ireland, there are plenty of events to choose from.

Cork has a fantastic weekend lined up with local performers, choirs and musicians. The streets burst into life with free family-fun entertainment and the city centre is transformed by a riot of colour and sound.

After a busy day's celebrations, return to Hayfield Manor and enjoy a uniquely Irish welcome. Pop into the Manor Bar to try a pint of Guinness.

For those wanting to head north, Belfast offers a colourful atmosphere. On the day itself a carnival procession leaves City Hall at 12pm with a host of floats, performers and live music.
