People are just realising popular British pub meal has 'gone extinct'
People have been left gobsmacked after realising that there's a meal in pubs that seems to be going 'extinct', and people aren't happy about the fact that they're disappearing from menus
There's nothing like a good bit of pub grub when you're out having a pint with pals and you get hungry. It's cheap, cheerful, and often very tasty. There are usually things like fish and chips on the menu, perhaps even a pie, or some small plates you can treat yourself to. But one eagle-eyed pub-goer has noticed that there's one meal that doesn't ever seem to be on the menu anymore, whereas in previous years, it's been a mainstay.
Great British Memes shared a video of a woman pointing out that there's something going "extinct" on menus, but can you guess what it is?
She wrote: "Guys, I've just realised mixed grills are going extinct. I genuinely couldn't tell you the last time I went to the pub and there was one on the menu".
Great British Memes penned: "Bring them back!"
What is a mixed grill? It's a meal featuring a variety of grilled or broiled meats, often accompanied by grilled vegetables and a fried egg.
It typically includes different types of meat like sausage, steak, and chicken, along with accompaniments such as chips, tomatoes, and mushrooms, alongside sauces.
At the start of 2025, Wetherspoons made the decision to remove steak and mixed grill meals from their menu.
On Reddit, someone was devastated when they visited Wetherspoons and couldn't find their beloved mixed grill. They asked whether it was likely to make a return.
They penned: "Went to our local and had forgotten the grills section was being sacked off, imagine my disappointment! Are we expecting that's it for the grills and we won't be seeing them again, or is it just a trial in some locations? I went for the beef madras as it was curry club and I'd not had one for years. It was pretty good".
Someone pointed out that they're "not as popular as they used to be," and sometimes the "quality can vary".
But some said that many pubs are still offering mixed grills - it just depends on where you're eating out.
"My husband had one at the weekend," someone wrote, while a Facebook user said "Beefeater does them".
"I literally had one the other day," one woman shared, but somebody else pointed out that they are "becoming less common".
However, this may be because they predominantly go to Wetherspoons, and they've stopped doing them.
But what's the most popular meal when people go to the pub? According to a study, it's fish and chips.
Flaky, flavoursome fish in golden batter, coupled with chunky chips, is one of the nation's favourite combos, made even tastier with the addition of mushy peas.
The second most popular won't be a surprise to anybody, as it's a Sunday Roast. So tasty!
