Steaks will taste better and end up juicier after 1 easy step chefs always do

There are numerous tips and tricks available for ensuring your steak is cooked exactly to your liking, but the best one is remarkably simple - here's what a steakhouse chain says you need to know

Cooking steak can be a bit of a minefield. There's a plethora of advice out there on how to get your steak just right, but the best tip is surprisingly straightforward.

If you're after a steak with a crispy crust that's still juicy and packed with flavour in the middle, there's one thing you need to know. The secret isn't in the cooking method, but rather the preparation beforehand.

It all comes down to temperature and timing. To ensure your steak cooks perfectly, let it reach room temperature before it goes into the pan.

According to Miller and Carter Steakhouse, this allows the steak to cook more evenly and retain more juices.

You don't need to leave it out for ages - 30 minutes on the worktop while you're getting the rest of your dinner ready will bring it to the right temperature, reports the Express US.

When it's time to cook your steak, season it first with salt and pepper, making sure to rub the seasoning into the meat.

Let it sit for another 15 minutes so the flavours can permeate the meat.

Next, pat it dry with kitchen roll. Drying your steak ensures a good sear on the meat, which will create a tasty crust.

Once your steak is cooked, you might be itching to cut into it straight away, but hold your horses. If you slice into it too soon, the juices will escape and your steak will end up dry.

Instead, always let your steak rest for five minutes before eating it - this ensures a tender, juicy cut of meat filled with flavour.
