Cadbury Heroes to replace fan favourite chocolate in Christmas tubs with new variant

Cadbury has announced a major change to its Heroes tubs this Christmas, and one fan said 'noooo that’s my favourite one!!'

Cadbury is shaking things up with their Heroes chocolate tubs this year, a move that's sure to split sweet-toothed fans down the middle. As Christmas approaches, many of us are stocking up on delicious treats for the festive period.

But brace yourselves for a surprise when you pop open your Heroes tub for the first time. For the first time ever, the beloved Cadbury Flake will be making a guest appearance in the iconic treat box.

While this will undoubtedly thrill some, it does mean another chocolate has had to make way. Fear not if you're a fan of the chewy caramel delight, as this change only applies to certain tubs.

In an effort to reduce plastic waste, Cadbury is testing out new paper tubs in selected Tesco stores. The 300,000 paper tubs will be the only ones swapping Eclairs for Flakes, while the plastic tubs remain unchanged.

Chocolate fans reacted to the change - with one horrified. Lauren said: "noooo that’s my favourite one!! They should have binned the crunchie"

On Facebook however not everyone was sad. Michelle said: "Good that they’re sacking off the éclairs but they won’t be the same in the paper box."

Ke Lee added: "Eclairs are the bounty of Heroes. No-one wants them. This is a win win."

Sasha added: "Excellent switch to cardboard as long as carbon footprint is lower. Even better news on swapping éclair for flake, nobody eats the éclairs in my house so always go to waste."

These paper tubs will hit the shelves from late October and will be available for a limited period. Customers who buy these trial boxes can scan a QR code to give feedback on the new tubs.

This input will help determine future Heroes line-ups and inform packaging initiatives. Plus, those who purchase a new paper tub could win cash prizes or Tesco vouchers.

This brief switch-up by Cadbury is part of Mondelēz's global "Pack Light and Right" strategy, mirroring a recent move by Nestle as they look to decrease their environmental impact.

Cadbury is making strides towards sustainability with their packaging. "For 25 years, Cadbury Heroes has been a beloved brand, bringing friends and loved ones together with its iconic assortment," said Christina Bland, brand manager for Cadbury.

"The Heroes paper tub trial represents a step in our active work to explore new packaging solutions for our portfolio. This trial will inform our long-term packaging approach, and we are also excited to introduce Cadbury Flake to the assortment for this trial, offering a new favourite for consumers to enjoy."

In response to Nestlé's shift to paper tubs for Quality Street, one shopper lamented that it had taken the "joy out of Christmas". However, others highlighted that the new tubs are more sustainable and better for the environment.
