Netflix drama Steve featuring Cillian Murphy and adapted from Max Porter's novel stands as one of this year's most eagerly awaited new arrivals.
The critically praised film centring on a headmaster at a school for lads with behavioural difficulties has finally landed on the streaming platform today (Friday, 3rd October).
Murphy takes on the role of the eponymous teacher, who develops a connection with troubled youngster Shy (portrayed by Jay Lycurgo) whilst simultaneously grappling with his own psychological struggles.
The picture has garnered positive critiques thus far, with The Guardian describing Murphy's turn as "outstanding", whilst additional reviewers have highlighted its difficult-to-digest themes.
Beyond Murphy and his other familiar co-stars, including Tracey Ullman and Emily Watson, audiences might be curious about where they've previously encountered newcomer Lycurgo, reports the Express.
The 27 year old will probably already be recognised by numerous streaming fans as he's featured in several prominent television and cinema productions prior to sharing the screen with the Irish Academy Award winner.
British performer Lycurgo was raised in Croydon and launched his acting journey with various small parts in some legendary UK programmes.
He made his television bow in an instalment of the enduring BBC One series Doctors in 2019 before playing a character named Marcus in Michaela Coel's celebrated drama I May Destroy You the subsequent year.
Lycurgo additionally secured a small part in the Portuguese picture Listen and featured in an episode of the Fox programme War of the Worlds. In 2021, the promising young performer secured his first major recurring part in the HBO Max and DC Universe programme Titans, taking on the character of Tim Drake, the third version of Batman's companion Robin.
Merely twelve months later, he would feature in another Batman venture, 2022's The Batman with Robert Pattinson, playing a youthful gang member at the opening of the superhero spectacular.
2022 witnessed the performer embracing more prominent parts, securing a principal role in BBC One comedy Cheaters alongside headlining the Netflix programme The B****** Son & The Devil Himself as Nathan Byrne, adapted from Sally Green's mystical Half Bad book collection.
He characterised the programme as an "X-rated Harry Potter", comparing the thrilling fantasy series to Misfits, Twilight and Skins.
In 2024, he maintained his supernatural momentum with appearances in Ben Wheatley's undead thriller Generation Z and Sky's vampire movie The Radleys, featuring Kelly MacDonald.
Following Steve, Lycurgo has no fewer than three additional pictures scheduled, including the eagerly awaited Peaky Blinders follow-up, The Immortal Man, where he'll rejoin his fellow performer Murphy as Tommy Shelby.
