'Endlessly rewatchable' noughties drama hailed a 'cult classic' is streaming free

The film was released in 2000 and was a box office success.

Noughties kids looking for a taste of nostalgia will be thrilled to hear a classic comedy-drama film is available to stream for free on ITVX.

The film stars Yellowstone actress Piper Perabo, as well as huge names like Adam Garcia and Tyra Banks.

The film received mostly negative reviews from critics but was a box office success nonetheless, grossing $113 million worldwide.

It has since become a cult classic over the years and it a fan-favourite for millennials.

The film in question is Coyote Ugly, which is set at the bar of the same name in New York City.

Hailed as Piper Perabo's breakthrough moment, the film follows Violet Sanford who leaves her father behind at their home in New Jersey to chase her dream of becoming a songwriter.

After moving to New York City, she finds a job at a bar called Coyote Ugly, and along the way meets Kevin O'Donnell (Garcia) who she believes to be a music industry scout.

The film was inspired by an article titled The Muse of the Coyote Ugly Saloon in GQ by Elizabeth Gilbert, who worked as a bartender in the East Village, Manhattan.

The bar opened in 1993 and quickly became a favourite amongst visitors.

Fans took to Rotten Tomatoes to share their thoughts, with BadNews R saying: "This is hands down one of my all-time favorite movies. I absolutely love Coyote Ugly.

"Everything about it just works for me. I love how it presents these women as strong, fearless, and unapologetically tough. It’s fun, empowering, and endlessly rewatchable.

"Piper Perabo is incredible as Jersey. She perfectly captures the underdog spirit, bringing so much energy and heart to the screen as a young woman chasing her dreams and refusing to stay down."

Maksim C added: "I've re-watched Cayote Ugly multiple times throughout my life, always a gem."

Rob R commented in 2024: "This movie is 24 years old and stands the test of time. It's a cute romance classic."
