He started his professional career with Belenenses in 2002 before moving to Benfica in 2008. At Benfica, he won several domestic titles, including the Primeira Liga and the Taca da Liga.
After retiring from playing, Ruben Amorim transitioned into coaching. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Benfica before taking on managerial roles at various Portuguese clubs. Notably, he became the head coach of Sporting CP in March 2020. Under his management, Sporting CP experienced significant success, winning the Primeira Liga title in the 2020-2021 season, ending a 19-year drought for the club.
