The highest mountain on Earth, Everest is the tallest of the Himalayan range in Nepal. The peak is 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level. It was conquered on 29th May 1953 by Kiwi Edmund Hillary and Nepali sherpa Tenzing Norgay.
