Lindasy Hoyle has been the MP for Chorley since 1997. He became Speaker of the House in November 2019, after John Bercow stepped down.

As the Speaker, Hoyle is non-partisan and unaffiliated to any political party. He does not participate in debates or vote (except to break a tie), and is instead in charge of maintaining order in the House.
