Inside Taylor Swift’s £1.5 million 'Alice In Wonderland'-inspired penthouse apartment

Taylor Swift has created a magical world inside her Tennessee penthouse. The eccentric decor features a human-sized bird cage and a tribute to her run-in with Kanye West

Taylor Swift has created her very own “Wonderland” inside her magical Tennessee penthouse apartment.

Although best known for her musical prowess, Taylor clearly has an eye for interior design. The 34-year-old Anti Hero songstress bought the multi-story condo for nearly $2 million (£1.5 million) back in 2009 when she was just 20. After making the extravagant purchase, the star quickly got to work transforming the once ultra-modern bachelor pad into a whimsical Alice In Wonderland-inspired abode.

The 14-time Grammy winner spent 18 months gut-renovating the three-bedroom home into her dream creative space and the results are incredible. Today, the 3,240-square-foot apartment is an eclectic vision featuring a night-sky-inspired chandelier ceiling, a human-sized bird cage, and a tribute to her run-in with Kanye West.

Situated on Nashville’s Music Row - the ‘headquarters’ of America’s country music industry - the home is a maximalist’s dream. Walking in the front door, guests are immediately greeted by brightly coloured wallpaper and a fish pond sitting in the middle of the living room. Beyond the foyer - which is lined with frames of brightly coloured paper flowers - lies a six-foot grass rabbit.

Just above her indoor pond, a metal spiral staircase leads to a “human-sized birdcage” that the star designed herself. Lined with pillows and blankets, Taylor described the cosy hideaway as the “most comfortable place in the world” in a 2012 interview with Rolling Stone.

The walls of the magical space are full of photos of Taylor and her closest friends and family. Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2012, the star said: “I need to have pictures of people I love everywhere”, adding that her penthouse is “Tim Burton-Alice in Wonderland-pirate ship-Peter Pan”-inspired.

As well as photos of fond memories, Taylor has also chosen to feature an infamous not-so-fond one. Placed on her wall above a massive stone fireplace sits a framed photo of the scandalous moment when Kanye West interrupted her 2009 VMA acceptance speech.

Taylor has transformed the vaulted ceilings of the apartment into artistic installations too, with colourful crystal stars, shimmering chandeliers and vibrant curtains covering the space above. Leaving no surface bare, Taylor’s floors are adorned with faded Persian rugs.

Walking into her open-plan kitchen, guests are greeted with a fairy-tale vision, with a heart-tiled backsplash, rounded archways and cabinets painted in blue, red and yellow. Taylor’s doodles decorate the drawers and shelves and her stainless steel ovens are covered with colourful stickers.

While most of the home is decorated with every colour in the rainbow, her bedroom’s theme is a cloudy sky, decorated with white and fluffy details. Vintage mirrors are hung on the wall above the Cruel Summer singer’s bed and stunning white, tiered curtains are hung along the windows.

As well as her quirky Nashville condo, the singing sensation owns several other impressive pieces of property and has an impressive real estate portfolio valued at a whopping $80 million (£63 million). Taylor also owns a $50 million New York City compound and a coastal home in Rhode Island as well as another Nashville property where she spends most of her time while in Music City.
