The music world is mourning another loss after the death of Scott Sorry was confirmed. The former star of The Wildhearts has died after a long battle with brain cancer.

The musician, whose real name was Gerard Engelter, died on his 47th birthday. A sad statement was released on his Instagram account. It read: "We’re heartbroken to share that Scott Sorry has passed away after a long and incredibly brave fight with brain cancer. Scott passed away on his 47th birthday, October 30th, 2025.

"After being diagnosed with Glioblastoma back in 2018, Scott refused to let it define him. He outlived every Doctors expectation, turning months into years, and even made it back to the UK in 2022 for a tour — something that meant the world to him.

A sad tribute was posted on Scott's social media to confirm his death

"He was so grateful to be able to play again, to see so many familiar faces and to personally thank so many of you that had supported him through it all.

"We’re devastated beyond words, but there’s comfort in knowing he’s finally free from pain. His strength, humour, and heart will stay with us forever. Scott is survived by his wife Hanni and his three children River, Ryder and Rörik."

Fans were quick to share messages of condolence on the comments section of the post. Among them was model Mayra Dias Gomes, who wrote: "Terribly heartbroken. Rest in heaven, Scott. You will forever be loved & missed."

The former wrestling star also posted personal images of the pair on her own Instagram Stories.

Another user wrote: "All the rocknroll world mourns your passing. You will never be forgotten."

A third added: "Deeply saddened by this. My heartfelt and deepest condolences to his family and friends. You’ll be missed old friend."

Scott was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017. At the time, the news was broken by bandleader Ginger on social media.

He wrote on Twitter/X: "Dear Wildhearts community, My brother Scott Sorry is very sick. He has a brain tumour and he needs all of our help."

He then posted a GoFundMe page that had been set up by pal Rich Jones. The page's description read: "The doctors have described it as a two-inch cystic tumor on the left side of his brain, and it's currently affecting his speech and motor functions."

"Right now he's in for observation and they expect to perform surgery on him on Dec 26th. We're all pulling for Scott and if anyone can get through this thing it's him, but right now we have to just wait and see."

It described how Scott had scaled back his involvement in music over the years to focus on his family. Speaking of why he set up the fund, Rich added: "'I'm setting up this fund to help give some relief to a guy who has brought so much joy to others through his music, his friendship and his selfless love for his family."

He went on to call Scott "one of the best guys that I know".
