Maisie Smith gives health update on boyfriend Max George after life-saving heart surgery and his ‘hard days’

Maisie Smith has shared boyfriend Max George is doing well after undergoing life-saving heart surgery last year but adds that he still has 'hard days'

When The Wanted star Max George was rushed into hospital last December after he "turned blue", many were left fearing the worst. But 11 months on, the singer appears to be doing better than expected as he just completed the American leg of The Wanted 2.0 tour, alongside bandmate Siva Kaneswaran.

Since falling ill with a heart condition, Max, 37, has done his best to take his Instagram followers on his journey. But in a recent interview, former EastEnders actress Maisie Smith, who is also Max's girlfriend has shared an update on his health.

She told The Sun: "He’s getting better all the time. I mean, he was well enough to do this tour, which is amazing, because obviously that’s what he wants to be doing. He still has hard days and better days, but he’s definitely getting stronger again and it’s nice to see him performing."

She continued: "I went out to New York on my week off and watched him perform to thousands of people and it’s a nice feeling to see him do that after the year he’s had. "

"So yeah, he’s doing well. No one knew what was going to happen this time last year, so it’s really nice to see him doing what he was born to do", she said

Max and Maisie first locked eyes while competing on Strictly Come Dancing five years ago and further cemented their relationship during the Strictly arena tour.

Their friendship soon blossomed into a love story and the couple went public with their romance in 2022.

When they first got together, many raised an eyebrow over their 13 year age gap. And while on Lorraine last August, presenter Ranvir Singh asked the question that had been on everyone's lips.

Addressing the whispers, Maisie said: "I've always said from the start my family and your family - we're so close. Max has been there for me and my family while we've been going through some stuff." Max added: "We're not bothered about stuff like that."

Two years ago, the pair faced huge criticism after their pregnancy prank backfired on them. In one of their Instagram stories, Max and Maisie are seen standing in front of a mirror, showing off what looked like a baby bump.

Teasing fans they said: "We've got some really exciting news." In the first post, she covered her bump with a red hearty emoji.

But in the next post, she removed the emoji and wrote: "I just had the best five course meal of my life", the joke being that she had a 'food baby'.
