David's Back Pain Seminar
David's Back Pain Seminar
I talk about my experience with four years of chronic low back pain (now recovered). We'll discuss what I've learned, the current medical literature on non-specific low back pain, common postural causes of pain, treatment modalities and exercise strategies, and book recommendations. 80-percent of Americans will experience back pain at some point, so even if you are young and do not experience pain, it's a good thing to know how to prevent. This is not an exercise class, but we will go over common hip, core, and back exercises you may wish to participate in. To bring: \- Yoga Mat \(optional\, but highly recommended if you want to participate in the exercises\) \- Water bottle \- Comfortable workout clothes \- Your mind We will meet in the **large meeting room** in the **Germantown Library.** **DISCLAIMER**: I am not a doctor or a PT. None of this is medical advice. If you have an injury that warrants medical attention, see a doctor before participating. Any exercise you do at your own risk.

MoCo Millennials Kickoff Social! (Pike and Rose)
MoCo Millennials Kickoff Social! (Pike and Rose)
Let’s get this thing started! For the first MoCo Millennials meetup, we’re keeping it simple: a bunch of local millennials meeting each other at Owen’s Tavern & Garden in Pike & Rose. No agenda, no awkward icebreakers, no requirement to stay the whole time. Come by for 30 minutes or hang out all evening. The idea behind this group is pretty simple: there have to be a lot of us around Montgomery County who want a bigger local social circle without having to constantly drive into DC or across the DMV to find people our age. So come solo or bring a friend, meet some people, and see who you click with. I’ll be there early to welcome everyone and make introductions! If people are still having fun when the official event wraps up, we’ll figure out where the night goes from there. **Sunday, October 25 at 4:00 PM** **Owen’s Tavern & Garden — Pike & Rose** See you there!

Afterward there is a chance to mingle and hang over coffee and dessert. Food will be provided for free. **Join us, invite a friend, and be a part of the movement to mend our fractured society and normalize a better way of talking with one another.** BreadBreakers, an initiative by [Restoration United Methodist Church](https://restorationreston.org/breadbreakers) in Reston, VA, is a religiously inclusive community. Black Think Tank: Problem Solving Issues in the Black Community
Black Think Tank: Problem Solving Issues in the Black Community
Greetings, Let's meet for another **Last Sunday of the Month discussion (Sunday November 1st, 2026 for October 2026)** of Black Think Tanks and their role in problem solving issues in the black community. Through unique contribution, these advocacy organizations—often nonprofit and grassroots—research, lead, and build relationships based on shared values and trust. They set clear goals, partner with multidisciplinary change agents, meet routinely with advisory board members, and facilitate regular ongoing community discussions and dialogue. They bring awareness to issues that exist within and external to the community and work to implement the most effective *ethical* ways to address them. For those interested in participating in think tank style research, brainstorming, conversations, and calls to action, feel free to RSVP. If there are any questions, comments, or suggestions (in person meetings, different locations, days and times) feel free to reach out via meet-up message or phone at any time, thank you. **Note:** **Please reach out via phone (call or text) if your meet-up/zoom names do not match or if you do not have a meet-up profile photo (can text with both meet-up and Zoom profile name).** Entering the Zoom at various times is not disruptive, however, there may be benefits to prescreening first time virtual participants to reduce any other forms of disruption. **Again, do feel free to call/text during any Zoom meeting if there are technical issues/challenges entering the room, all are welcome (to include those of different ethnicities and backgrounds), thank you.** Alicia (202) 767-0361 Sunday October, 11th, 5:00pm (update)

Social Fluency: Halloween Edition 🎃
**Halloween weekend is the MOST social event of the year and it’s a time when strangers expect to talk to each other. Let's make sure you're ready.** What do you have planned? A costume party, a bar crawl, a work event, or maybe you’re handing out candy to the neighbors, whatever you are getting up to, the whole weekend is packed with chances to meet people. Our 60-minute live, virtual workshop gets you warmed up before you walk in the door. **What you'll walk away with** **The infinite opener in your pocket.** Costumes, décor, snacks, and the host are all built-in conversation starters. You'll learn how to use them, even if you're not in costume yourself. **A way to keep the conversation going.** No more "nice costume!" followed by an awkward silence. You'll practice turning small talk into a real conversation (and having fun doing it). **What to do to make sure you see them again.** The best party conversations usually die on November 1st. You'll learn how to turn a good chat into an actual plan, like a horror movie night, a haunted house, or a post-Halloween brunch. **What we"ll do** * Workshop openers live, with real-time feedback on yours * Practice in small breakout groups * Learn how to join a group, exit gracefully, and work a room without feeling awkward * Pick a weekend mission and go try it out **This is for you if...** * You love Halloween but get nervous about the social part * You tend to end up in the corner of the snack table * You want to turn "we should hang out sometime" into something that actually happens * You're new in town, rebuilding your social circle, or just ready to meet more people **Stop sitting on the sidelines of life, jump in and join us**

How to Approach People on Halloween🎃
How to Approach People on Halloween🎃

Tips for using Meetup
to meet new friends

There’s nothing like sharing an interest to help spark a friendship. Here’s how to use Meetup to meet new friends.

1

Find events and join groups for your interests by searching on Meetup. Try topics like “pickleball,” “book clubs,” “hiking,” or “board games.”

2

Make a commitment to attend at least one event a week.

3

At the Meetup event, start conversations with people you meet. Remember, they’re there to meet people too. If you’re shy, try a few of these ice-breaking techniques.

4

Repeat the experience by attending more events from the same group. Friendship takes time. Get to know your Meetup community and friendship will follow.
