 - NFL. Preferential treatment for Mahomes? Troy Aikman seemed to suggest so, though it's an open secret

Clark Hunt, chairman and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs, has publicly backed the notion that the franchise is ready to make bold moves ahead of the upcoming trade deadline.
With the November 4 deadline fast approaching and the team facing depth issues, Hunt emphasised that general manager Brett Veach is prepared to act if the right opportunity presents itself.
"If he feels like we have a need, he is not shy about addressing it," Hunt said.
The comment arrives after the Chiefs' 28-7 victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 8, a game that masked underlying issues - especially along the defensive line.
The injury to rookie DT Omarr Norman-Lott, who is out for the season, elevated concerns about Kansas City's ability to withstand the grind of playoff football. Hunt flagged that loss as a catalyst for potential roster activity.
For a franchise accustomed to being at the very top, the message is clear: complacency isn't an option.
The Chiefs got off to a rocky start in 2025, yet Hunt stressed that Veach's aggressive trade-deadline history remains intact.
Identifying priorities under pressure
Analysts and insiders believe the most likely targets for Kansas City will be beefing up the defensive front and adding running-back depth - two areas noted as pressing concerns.
Sources say the Chiefs have already been "poking around" the defensive tackle market, with names like DT Quinnen Williams of the New York Jets among those mentioned.
Hunt has spoken out about Josh Simmons' absence, calling it a "private family matter".
But in the meantime, the Chiefs owner is busy arranging potential trades.
The timeline is tight: with the trade-deadline clock ticking. Any move will need to be precise, cost-effective, and on a short fuse.
While the offence remains potent, Kansas City seems determined not to let momentum slip because of roster gaps. Whether the deal is blockbuster or quiet, the hallmark will be proactive.
Until that deal drops, Hunt's statement stands as a warning: the Chiefs are ready to pounce - and they expect nothing less than championship results.
