Major League Baseball announced the finalists for the 2025 Gold Glove, the award that distinguishes the best defenders of the year at each position.

The selection of the winners is made by means of a vote that combines the opinion of managers and coaches (75%) with the SABR defensive index (25%), in order to seek to ensure a balance to be as fair as possible in the selection of the winners.

The Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays, as expected, dominated the list of finalists with six nominations each, reflecting the defensive depth of their rosters.

American League Finalists: Youth, Experience and Consistency

In the American League, the focus was on players who maintain consistent excellence with the glove: Alejandro Kirk (Blue Jays) established himself among the best catchers. At first base, Carlos Santana (Guardians) proves that experience is also rewarded, and Andres Gimenez (Blue Jays) is aiming for his fourth consecutive trophy at second base.

Jose Ramirez (Guardians) and Bobby Witt Jr. (Royals) lead the infield with outstanding performances, while Steven Kwan (Guardians) and Adolis Garcia (Rangers) lead the outfield. In the versatility section, Ernie Clement (Blue Jays) could make history by winning in two different positions in the same year.

National League: new figures and elite defenders

The National League presented an interesting mix of established stars and up-and-coming youngsters. Logan Webb (Giants) shone from the mound, and Patrick Bailey (Giants) is looking for his second consecutive Gold Glove behind the plate. At first base, Matt Olson (Braves) leads the defensive metrics, while Nico Hoerner (Cubs) continues to show mastery at second.

Young talent prevailed in key positions: Masyn Winn (Cardinals) stood out as one of the best shortstops, Pete Crow-Armstrong (Cubs) demonstrated his ability in center field, and Fernando Tatis Jr. (Padres) once again excelled for his defensive prowess in right field. Dodger Miguel Rojas closed the list as a finalist in the utility category, reaffirming his value as a versatile piece.
