June 1, 2025 (Washington, DC)- Malaria No More is grateful that the administration continues to see value in U.S. bilateral malaria assistance, however, the FY26 budget request includes a devastating 47% cut to the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), slashing funding to $424 million. This level of reduction would be catastrophic for malaria-affected countries across Africa, and make us less safe, secure, and prosperous here at home.

The proposal also seeks to change the U.S. Global Fund matching requirement from 1:2 to 1:4— an unprecedented move that would drastically diminish America’s leadership role in one of the most successful global health partnerships in history. Since its founding, the U.S. has been the cornerstone of the Global Fund’s success in saving more than 65 million lives.

Equally troubling is the proposal to eliminate funding for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, just as groundbreaking malaria vaccines are beginning to roll out across Africa. We need every tool in the toolbox to end malaria, and that absolutely includes childhood vaccines.

Now is not the time to step back. Malaria No More is calling on our longtime bipartisan champions in Congress to reject these significant cuts and ensure level funding for PMI and a full U.S. replenishment for both the Global Fund and Gavi. These investments are not only lifesaving—they are central to advancing U.S. global health, economic, and security interests.
