Parks, Recreation and Marine  invites neighbors, families and friends across Long Beach to come together for the 42nd Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day. This longtime annual event serves as an opportunity for the community to make a positive impact by helping keep local beaches and marinas clean, healthy and thriving. This year’s cleanup will take place Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon, at 10 locations in Long Beach.

The City of Long Beach Department of Public Works and Parks, Recreation and Marine invite community members to attend a community meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Houghton Park Community Center (6301 Myrtle Ave.) to learn more about four improvement projects planned for Houghton Park.

Cooling centers with extended hours available; heat index expected to exceed 95 degrees. Monday, Aug. 24 through Friday, Aug. 28. Due to excessive temperatures forecast through Friday, Aug. 28, Acting City Health Officer Dr. Cliff Okada has issued an Extreme Heat Alert and is advising community members to take precautions to avoid heat-related illness. 

City Parks, Recreation and Marine Community Centers and Long Beach Public Library locations are available as designated cooling centers and select locations will extend standard hours through Friday, Aug. 28.
