Driver suffers minor injuries after Vauxhall ploughs into lamppost

The road was reopened shortly before 8pm

A driver suffered minor injuries after a Vauxhall collided with a lamppost on Prescot Road. Merseyside Police confirmed to the ECHO that officers were in attendance in Old Swan earlier this evening following reports of a one car crash.


A force incident manager said officers were called to the crash at around 5.15pm today, Saturday. The driver of the Vauxhall was said to have suffered minor injuries in the incident. An image taken by an ECHO reader showed Merseyside Police had blocked off the road while the vehicle was recovered from the scene.


Another person said the Old Swan area was "quite busy" following the incident and police had installed diversions for drivers.


Multiple bus services are affected because of the incident with Arriva North West advising travellers that delays are likely.

Arriva North West posted on X advising people that delays were likely and diversions were in place.

The affected services included the 8, 9, 10, 10A, 10B, 61 and 68.


The bus company confirmed the road had reopened shortly before 8pm.

An image sent to the ECHO showed the damaged vehicle and lamppost close to Bathroom Centre on the Old Swan road. A recovery vehicle was also in attendance.

Merseyside Police officers cordoned off part of the road in both directions to allow for safe recovery and to help with traffic management.
