LRVHealth has partnered with Labinot Bytyqi and his team along with leading investors HealthQuest Capital, Bon Secours Mercy Health, UCHealth, and OSF HealthCare to fundamentally transform “smart rooms” across the continuum of care.    LRVHealth has tracked the evolving “smart room” space for many years and believe we have hit a true inflection point with the advent of emerging AI capabilities that proliferate the use cases in each setting of care. With these advancements, return on investment spans patient experience, quality, safety, and labor. Health systems recognize that patients now expect a more tech-enabled, intelligent healthcare experience—and are factoring this into their plans for facility upgrades and expansions. Use cases include:  -Virtual sitting and nursing  -Admission, discharge, and transfer   -Observation and consultations   -Fall prevention   -Behavioral management   -Double medication verification   -Meal consumption and analysis   -Vitals analysis and management   -Bed and room turnover  -And many more     As use cases expand, there is a growing need for a comprehensive enterprise solution, that would allow for a shared infrastructure and data connectivity, to replace fragmented point solutions. Doximity just released a free AI scribe for US clinicians, accelerating commoditization/the race to the bottom. Their product won’t integrate into the EHR like Abridge, but it’ll be interesting to see how much it impacts their ability to acquire customers, drive usage and maintain retention. This is the start of a trend that will continue across every vertical market. Counterpositioning with free products to undercut upstarts and incumbents alike. Buckle up. Your margin is someone else’s opportunity.

It didn’t make big headlines at HLTH but maybe it should have. Two offerings from UpToDate Wolters Kluwer stand out as potential big steps adding to players in the complex and regulated clinical decision-support (CDS) space, ie helping doctors make diagnoses. Just like moving from Google search to ChatGPTAtlas these two products have the potential to assist doctors in the office in moving from looking things up and get back pages of information to decipher to a more synthesized, higher level of clinical decision support. UpToDate Connect embeds clinical content directly into the workflow EHR through APIs and UpToDate Expert AI seeks to layer generative-AI driven reasoning on top of UptoDate content. For decades, even dating back to when I was in medical school UpToDate has been the go-to clinical decision-support tool for physicians, continuously being updated and curated by the latest evidence-based medicine from randomized-clinical trials and publications. This is one of the areas where AI likely holds its greatest potential and yet remains one of the trickiest to navigate and do well. When done right, embedded decision-support can reduce workflow friction, reinforce consistency, and rebuild trust in technology. When done poorly, it risks over-simplification of diagnoses and another problem which CMIOs call alert fatigue. The competition in this space is also intense from OpenEvidence to Glass Health and Doximity. Looking forward to getting feedback from real-world users of both UpToDate Connect and UpToDate Expert AI in the coming months. Getting this right, and embedding it within the EHR, may be one of the most important design and adoption challenges (and opportunities!) in modern healthcare.
