Patrick Flandreau, PMP, HRIP liked thisPatrick Flandreau, PMP, HRIP liked this15 years ago this week, I was in San Diego for my first week of onboarding at Petco (the OG headquarters on Rehco Rd), getting ready to help open the San Antonio SSC. Fast forward to today, and I look back with a lot of gratitude for the journey. I’ve had the opportunity to work across Learning & Development, the Petco Foundation, Talent & Performance Management, and HR Mgmt. I did take a sabbatical to work alongside a former Petco leader before finding my way back home here at Petco Love. Every role has brought new challenges, opportunities, and experiences, but what has made these 15 years truly special are the people. I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with incredible individuals across the country who have made the work meaningful and fun. An added bonus has been the privilege of learning from and working for some incredible leaders: Elizabeth Gormally (thanks for taking a chance on a guy from Texas), Shelly Connelly, Carrie Ridge, Susan Cosby-Jennings, Susanne Kogut , Ami Curtis, Ph.D., and Chelsea Staley. Talk about a Who’s Who of phenomenal leaders! Patrick Flandreau, PMP, HRIP liked thisPatrick Flandreau, PMP, HRIP liked thisWhat are Aneel Bhusri and Dave Duffield trying to tell the Workday ecosystem? My two cents - Workday is being "re-founded" and it's worth paying attention to. Remember ?? "AI is a bigger transformation than SaaS <> and it will define the next generation of market leaders." When Aneel Bhusri returned as Workday CEO in February, many saw it as a routine leadership change. Six months in, it's clearly much more than that. A few things stand out from the past month: The founder is treating this like a restart, not a comeback. Aneel has openly share his perspective of current trends, and he's rebuilding it new leadership structure, sharper product focus, and a clear message: the future isn't more HR features, it's AI agents that actually do the work. The numbers are backing the story. Workday's AI business is approaching $500M+ in annual revenue. Over 4,000 customers already use at least one Workday agent. And AI-linked deals are coming in noticeably larger than traditional ones. Trust is becoming the product. In June, Workday launched Agent Passport — a way to test and continuously monitor every AI agent running in the enterprise, measured against recognized security standards. This matters. As agents take on real work in HR and finance, the question shifts from "what can AI do?" to "can I trust what it's doing?" My take: Workday isn't trying to out-hype anyone on AI. It's making a quieter bet that companies will want AI working inside their trusted system of record, with guardrails, rather than bolted on from outside. For those of us in the Workday ecosystem, the message is simple: the skills conversation is moving from configuration to governance. Consultants who understand both will lead the next chapter.
