LRVHealth has partnered with Labinot Bytyqi and his team along with leading investors HealthQuest Capital, Bon Secours Mercy Health, UCHealth, and OSF HealthCare to fundamentally transform “smart rooms” across the continuum of care.    LRVHealth has tracked the evolving “smart room” space for many years and believe we have hit a true inflection point with the advent of emerging AI capabilities that proliferate the use cases in each setting of care. With these advancements, return on investment spans patient experience, quality, safety, and labor. Health systems recognize that patients now expect a more tech-enabled, intelligent healthcare experience—and are factoring this into their plans for facility upgrades and expansions. It didn’t make big headlines at HLTH but maybe it should have. Two offerings from UpToDate Wolters Kluwer stand out as potential big steps adding to players in the complex and regulated clinical decision-support (CDS) space, ie helping doctors make diagnoses. Just like moving from Google search to ChatGPTAtlas these two products have the potential to assist doctors in the office in moving from looking things up and get back pages of information to decipher to a more synthesized, higher level of clinical decision support. UpToDate Connect embeds clinical content directly into the workflow EHR through APIs and UpToDate Expert AI seeks to layer generative-AI driven reasoning on top of UptoDate content. For decades, even dating back to when I was in medical school UpToDate has been the go-to clinical decision-support tool for physicians, continuously being updated and curated by the latest evidence-based medicine from randomized-clinical trials and publications. This is one of the areas where AI likely holds its greatest potential and yet remains one of the trickiest to navigate and do well. When done right, embedded decision-support can reduce workflow friction, reinforce consistency, and rebuild trust in technology. When done poorly, it risks over-simplification of diagnoses and another problem which CMIOs call alert fatigue. The competition in this space is also intense from OpenEvidence to Glass Health and Doximity. Looking forward to getting feedback from real-world users of both UpToDate Connect and UpToDate Expert AI in the coming months. Getting this right, and embedding it within the EHR, may be one of the most important design and adoption challenges (and opportunities!) in modern healthcare.

#POCUS at #HLTH25 As a rapidly evolving medical technology, it's only natural that #POCUS and POCUS-related product startups and companies were represented. Here are some of the companies and their products represented at HLTH (in no particular order) 1) Butterfly Network, Inc. showcased their upcoming AI-enhancements to the Compass POCUS Manager, to become Compass AI. The new report dictation will allow the user to simply say what the findings are and generate a report. For example, "FAST negative" will generate a billable report of a normal FAST exam. Or if you say, cardiac POCUS showed a small pericardial effusion, the report will be of a POCUS with that finding, with everything else listed as normal. There are other enhancements to the dashboard and reporting, but the AI-generated reports were by far the coolest. Nathan Daynes Rhys Gay, MBA Teashia French, MBA 2) AISAP and their AI-reading of cardiac POCUS exams, giving an echo read, including valvular assessments, from a Cardiac POCUS. They have also developed a POCUS manager, POCUS OS, with upcoming AI-enhanced reporting and AI recognition of exam types (among other things!) Adiel Am-Shalom Amit Aharoni 3) E-Scopics has the first (to my knowledge) POCUS device to do elastography and quantitative fat analysis of the liver using their POCUS device (which also has excellent B-mode imaging quality), giving quantitative data in seconds. Founder Claude COHEN-BACRIE gave me an awesome demo. This device puts advanced liver analyses in the hands of clinicians in GI and primary care. 4) ROPCA has developed an AI POCUS device (it's more like a robot, it's super cool) that analyzes the hand and wrist for rheumatologic diseases such as #rheumatoidarthritis and #osteoarthritis, where POCUS is used to follow disease progression in an objective way, all with AI! Johannes Schaeferhoff 4) iSono Health- I almost missed this company but glad I found them! Their device is put on a breast and uses AI to take breast ultrasound images that can be sent to a breast radiologist for interpretation. The device takes minimal training, since it just needs to be attached properly to the breast, and the AI does the rest! And the best is yet to come...they are developing a tool to perform AI diagnostics of the image created. With breast cancer such a major problem, this product can bring breast cancer screening to patients who cannot get a mammogram, and can be done right from the primary care physician's office!
