Jamie McCann reposted thisJamie McCann reposted thisEight months going on Nine of seeking employment, the damage it is doing to myself and my family is well unmeasurable. -Applied to over 200 jobs, I stopped counting after 170. -Rework my resume ever other month assuming I am missing something. -Written some many cover letters it actual is becoming mentally draining on me. -Have reached out to others for help in locating any job, where I do not have to talk a lot (for those who don't know, tongue cancer, it physically hurts to talk). -Spent all of the months while waiting on interviews working on designing, budgeting, and making timelines for three games. -The best things that happened were two separate pitch meetings with Nintendo, them liking the designs but unable to fund, last meeting ended with them trying to help me find a publisher. -Have now reached out to several publishers, only one has reaching out, but four have looked at the pitch with no response, so now I am afraid of theft. -All this while waking up at 5 am every morning in a panic, with my stomach feeling sick constantly, as I continue to look for jobs until I have to make my son breakfast and take him to school. Then I come back and continue to look until I have exhausted the search for that day, then I get to designing. Just not in a good spot and my positivity is running dry. I am fighting cancer, had my dream job (unfortunately was a contract), and now everything just seems to be crumbling around me. So I guess this question goes out to all in the industry, (In alphabetical order as not to offend) Epic Games, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Valve corporation. Would any of you be interested in investing in a studio with a 1.5 million dollar budget for a 4 player online & offline co-operative experience. I would give more details but again, I am afraid of theft. Thank you all in advance and I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving break.

Jamie McCann posted thisCinch your seat belt, folks...the next four years are gonna be a bumpy ride. I know last week I said I wouldn't shovel crap on the newly-elected president. But he and his minions are making it increasingly difficult for me to keep my political piehole shut. Case in point, his cabinet/administration nominees have been doozies. They include a former Fox News host for the Secretary of Defense role, a Democrat turncoat to be his Secretary of Health and Human Services, an accused child molester/cocaine-snorting Butthead-lookalike to be the Attorney General (sidebar: thankfully, last week he backed out on his own), and the creme de la creme, the Secretary of Education is the wife of WWE--yep, the pro wrestling federation--founder. Then, this morning the NY Times reported that one of his aides has been asking for a "donation" to promote some of his appointees. I wonder if he will wear his gold high-top sneaks and use his "God Bless the USA" Bible at the inauguration. We're still two months out from his swearing-in and he has me doing all the swearing. I don't know if my pacemaker will last until 2028.

Comparing one imbecile’s ridiculous move to another idiot’s is like deciding which identical twins was a better kisser. While I make this vow I cannot say other Harris followers will be as considerate. All of us Americans need to work together and help mend the Grand Canyon-sized gap between the left and right. Maybe if we all stop criticizing the other we can right this ship before we become another Titanic or Lusitania. Carry on.

I would like this to be a civil, mature conversation with no badgering those who think differently. I’m being totally serious, because I have to believe others have this same question but I can’t figure out the answer. Here goes: Trump claims that the economy was better when he was in office the first time. If that is indeed true, was that because he took office AFTER Obama got the U-S back on track? Also, Trump contends that the economy has been in the toilet during the Biden years. Is that also true due to him taking the reigns after Trump? The way I see it, the economy lags behind the president and his administration’s agenda. I have to believe Trump benefited from Obama and Biden was hindered by Trump. I cannot believe the economy can get that much better or that much worse in just four years. If my thinking is flawed, please explain why. If I’m right, Trump should benefit during his second term from Biden’s tenure. If Trump doesn’t get pricing under control, will it be his fault—or Biden’s?

I would have voted for him as POTUS in 2020, but he never gained enough National traction and, much to my great disappointment, dropped out of the race (if you want to buy any "Mike Bloomberg 2020" campaign buttons, just let me know. I have about 20 left in my desk drawer). Meanwhile, that Mike (one of the smartest, most successful, and most trustworthy guys in the world IMHO) just endorsed and voted for Kamala Harris is all I need to know for November 5th. And for anyone who doesn't vote for Harris next Tuesday, you deserve whatever you do or don't get. I am retired recruiter. Yet, I continue to stop by LinkedIN from time to time. When I read your post I got quite p-off. You were very smart to halt the process.
Know this…no legit recruiter will EVER ask for any money at anytime from the candidate(s) for assistance in helping them secure a job. Recruiters are ALWAYS paid by the hiring company.
Remember also, before agreeing to work with recruiter, interview them as much as they do you. Find out their background, who some their clients are, other candidates they’ve been successful placing in roles. A recruiter will always be willing to boast of their knowledge and successes.

For 13 gut-wrenching days, I lived in two realities: running a business and running a search operation that spanned 10 miles and hundreds of people. After nearly two weeks of praying for a miracle, I am so grateful to say: HE’S HOME. ❤️😭 Not every life event needs to be turned into a corporate playbook. But going through this gave me a whole new level of gratitude for a couple of things. First, to my team at Talentfoot Executive Search. Business should never overshadow personal needs, but as a founder, the anxiety of switching off is real. Not only did the business not burn down while my mind was elsewhere, it thrived. They made decisions, kept momentum, and enabled me to be present with my family when it mattered most. If you want to know the true strength of your company culture, look at what happens when you step away. Second, never underestimate the power of visibility and a strong network. We papered the neighborhoods, posted daily, and put out a clear call to action. And, it worked. A woman recognized Fred 10 miles from home because she saw the Find Fred campaign. Strangers walked the woods in 95-degree heat. Neighbors drove routes daily just checking. It was a incredible reminder that you can't build a supportive network when you're already in the middle of a crisis. You have to build it beforehand. Anyone who is fortunate enough to have a dog in their lives knows how devastating this ordeal was. Thankfully, Fred is right back where he belongs. The business didn't skip a beat. And I’m more grateful than ever for the people, systems, and community around us. 🙏 (Pic: Reuniting with Fred)

It's day five since my little baby girl, the light of my life, Sanaa passed away unexpectedly and without any reason this Wednesday morning. She was 28. She was beautiful and smart and passionate. She loved helping people. She loved being a resource. The friend you called when you didn't know who else to call. She always, always, always smiled. It didn't matter where we were or what we were doing. She was the sunshine of our life. Which is why I called her Sunny. And now she's gone. I have written about my rage, my grief, and my fears. Because of that, my parents didn’t treat me like I was fragile. As a little girl, I was expected to carry firewood beside my brother. Shovel the driveway in the snow. Expected to show up. Expected to contribute. Expected to be an assuredly EQUAL. And because of that… I never walked into a room full of men feeling smaller. I never assumed I had to earn my right to speak. I never believed strength belonged to someone else. That was the greatest gift my parents gave me. Now it’s your turn. You’re in sixth grade. Awkward years yes but extremely formative. You’re figuring out friendships. Confidence. Where you fit. And here’s what I want you to know: You don’t need to be protected from life. You need to be PREPARED for it. You will carry your own wood. You will shovel your own snow. You will solve hard problems. You will stand tall in any room. Not because you’re my daughter. But because you’re capable. We all are. I will cheer for you. Guide you. In February 2006, I walked into the AKQA office in London for my first day fresh-faced and completely unaware of where this journey would take me. The tech world was a very different place. Twitter launched that summer. The first iPhone didn’t exist yet. Facebook was still mostly just college kids poking each other. Back then, I didn’t understand the scale of change this industry would go through, or how deeply I’d get to be part of it. But I did know I was joining a place full of people who cared about craft, curiosity, and pushing what’s possible. Nineteen years later, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the smartest, kindest, most relentlessly creative people I’ve ever met. Together we shipped work I’m incredibly proud of, navigated shifts in technology and culture, and built partnerships that shaped my career and who I am today. This month, I’ve closed my chapter at AKQA. It was not an easy decision. It's so hard to part ways with people I've spent years alongside, but it feels like the right moment to challenge myself in new ways. To everyone I’ve worked with, past and present: thank you. For the collaboration, trust, the late-nights, and friendships. It still feels a bit surreal to be honest with you, but I’m excited for what’s ahead. On the right, Ogilvy where I persisted and managed to get hired as a puppy and rose to a Sr Partner. On the left Grey where I was then hired to lead the west coast of the US. No is rarely an end point. It's a starting point. What you want is there for the taking. You just need to decide each "no" is one step closer to your "yes". JUST KEEP GOING. The obstacle is the way.
