First MSO to convert FL Dispensary into a Hemp Shop! Curaleaf noticeably reduced their Medical store count in the past few months in FL. At least one of these is due to them opening "The Hemp Co by Curaleaf" in its place (See below. Thanks Daniel Locke M.S.) While many companies have made the pivot to producing hemp products, few have entered into the retail side of it. The fact that this facility is being transitioned from a medical dispensary is a huge statement and symbolic of the overall industry shift we are seeing.

𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀. Cannabis founders build ‘premium’ brands to avoid competing on price. Guess what? In CPG, even premium products have to compete on price. Part of the issue is that many founders don’t understand what premium means, and therefore don’t understand what a premium buyer persona looks like. Premium does not mean luxury. Patagonia is premium. Gucci is luxury. Veuve Clique is premium. Dom Perignon is luxury. Premium buyers still look at price tags. Patagonia competes on price against North Face in REI. Veuve competes with Moet on price in liquor and grocery stores. Premium buyers and budget buyers are both driven by the same thing: value. However, what creates value for each group is slightly different. Budget buyers are looking for the best combination of price and quality, generally with a hard line spending cap that is difficult to break through. For this segment, cannabis is 90% CPG, and 10% Fashion. Premium buyers are judging products on a 3-way vector of price, quality, and ‘instagramability’ / “clout generation”. They generally shop with a more flexible spending cap. For this segment, cannabis is 40% CPG, and 60% Fashion. A couple key points to remember: *Budget shoppers still buy premium products! This is especially true in mature markets where a consumer might walk in with $80 to spend per week, but can grab a weeks worth of products for $60. Oftentimes, they ‘splurge’ fill the remainder of their cart of premium goods. *Premium shoppers account for less than 10% of the cannabis market. They might be the loudest group, and they are certainly the most over served. *Serving budget shoppers (successfully) doesn’t mean serving up garbage. It means delivering the best product possible, at a target price.

The official lists of municipalities regarding cannabis dispensaries and opt-out decisions have been updated as of December 10, 2024. The New York State Office of Cannabis Management is actively collaborating with local governments to build a robust cannabis market and increase access. Municipalities who previously opted-out of have the option to opt-in. Notably, Webb, Long Lake, Ohio, Brookhaven and Indian Lake — have opted in. Personalization in cannabis marketing is a buzzword. And I’m not having it.     Cannabis is confusing "personalization" and "relevance"—and it's going to cost operators real money. Personalization is a trap.   Every retailer wants to be able to create what Netflix has.   Anticipatory recommendations, custom to the user.     But cannabis is operating with incomplete data in markets that shift monthly (not yearly). I've watched operators burn budgets on personalization engines that feel invasive when wrong (often) and obvious when right. A customer who bought premium flower at $50/eighth last year looks "high value" to your algorithm. But when market forces drive that same flower to $40/eighth, that profile becomes meaningless. Your algorithm is learning from a moving target.    Personalization only happens when you take in information about the customer that contextualizes their decisions. Browsing history and purchasing is not enough.   Are they on vacation?  Did they move?  Do they drive or walk to the store?    Relevance Wins (right now).   Relevance is right message, right moment, right context. Friday afternoon hits differently than Tuesday morning. A customer walking in during a storm has different priorities than one browsing on a sunny Saturday to enjoy the park. While competitors obsess over individual customer journeys, we focus on moments that actually drive behavior: weather patterns, local events, seasonal shifts. 🤷🏽‍♂️Half of Cannabis brands won’t exist in 5 years. Over the past 7 years treating over 6000 patients from 11 different countries as a medical cannabis doctor I’ve seen dozens of CBD and cannabis brands come and go. As the Medical Cannabis pioneer in Costa Rica, I’ve had dozens of meetings with CBD brands, importers, investors, manufacturers, extractors and distributors, 90% of them don’t exist anymore or switched their business angle. Most of them have the same problem: They lost their initial purpose. When my mother had liver and colonic cancer and the only thing that separated her from suffering the side effects of chemo was Cannabis, I understood the power of this sacred plant. I’ve had hundreds of patients that tell me that without this plant, they would’ve taken their own lives many years ago… It seems that the industry forgot that the most important thing is how this plant and its molecules can help alleviate human and animal suffering. Optimistic promises of a quick buck, huge revenues and/or an early spot in a high rising industry have tricked people into thinking that the only thing important is the product and its ROI. By denying the need of specialized expertise, high level consulting, clinical experience and the need of working closely with the clinicians that have a direct contact with patients on a daily basis the only thing that is bound to happen is that these brands perish. Understanding the science, clinical aspects, medical protocols and quality standards that patients require should be the focus of any cannabis business. Reconnect with the healing powers of this sacred plant, remember that you are treating people with these products and have the upmost respect for the art of medicine. That’s the only way your brand or project will survive.

Let’s Talk About Cannabinoid Ratios in Hemp Products The CBD to THC ratio, along with the cannabinoid and terpene profile, plays a powerful role in shaping your overall cannabis experience and therapeutic outcomes. For example, a hemp extract with a CBD:THC ratio of 1:1 is not the same as one with a 2:1 ratio. These are fundamentally different formulations with distinct biological effects. A recent study explored how cannabis oils with varying CBD:THC ratios affect conditions such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, hepatic steatosis, and oxidative stress in an NAFLD model.
