Joshua Gomes posted thisAs I use AI more in my day-to-day engineering workflow, one thing I keep noticing is how big the gap still is between AI review and a strong manual code review. That’s why this research from Meta caught my attention. They tested a more structured prompting style that makes the model spell out its premises, trace execution paths, and justify its conclusion, and it improved results significantly on several code-reasoning tasks. My takeaway is not that AI code review is solved yet. It’s that structure still matters a lot. Better scaffolding may matter more than just telling the model to think harder. Joshua Gomes posted thisAlibaba just open-sourced Zvec, an in-process (embedded) vector database that runs inside your application—no separate vector DB service to deploy. A few highlights: • Built on Proxima (Alibaba’s internal vector search engine) • Supports dense + sparse vectors and hybrid search • The README claims “searches billions of vectors in milliseconds” (I’m treating that as a claim until I can reproduce it at that scale) • They’ve published VectorDBBench benchmarks + repro steps on Cohere 1M / 10M datasets This seems especially interesting for RAG setups where you want retrieval close to the app and don’t want to operate another service. Curious if anyone has tried it yet? What did you see around latency, recall@k, memory footprint, and index build/update performance? Repo link in comments 👇

Joshua Gomes reposted thisJoshua Gomes reposted thisLooking back on our first two months live with MACC 911 in Grant County, Washington we’ve wrote a brief case study on how we went from an idea to automating ~75% of MACC 911’s non-emergency calls (making up 50% of their total call volume). https://lnkd.in/gGnwpHnJ A year ago, James Liu and I were automating calls for hair salons across the country — our AI agent was booking appointments, answering questions, and giving quotes. While visiting one of our customers, she had a school pick-up line blocking all of her parking spots, so she called the non-emergency line. And waited. And continued to wait. Until she hung-up and called 911. The salon owner was upset and reasonably, so was the call-taker (hint, if there’s a queue on the non-emergency line, 911 is probably getting slammed too). After she asked me “Max, if you really want to help me out make it so the police answer the f****** phone.” So we started learning about 911 and figuring out why no one answered the phone. What first made us realize there was a problem was a Mission Critical Partners report on understaffing — “Nationwide, the average PSAP is 30% understaffed.” The first PSAP I toured matched that exactly: 110 telecommunicators, budgeted for 140. They we’re struggling to stay afloat with mandatory overtime and burned out staff. It was the beginning of a death spiral. What shocked (and excited me most) was that of the 1,200,000 calls this PSAP was taking, 1,000,000 of them were non-emergency / admin calls. This wasn’t a staffing issue — it was a focus issue, they were being distracted from true emergencies and exhausted by non-emergent, admin calls. The only solution to the staffing shortage is technology. There won’t ever be a return to full staffing in 911, we need to use software to help 911 telecommunicators focus on what they do best: emergencies. — Also, check out our new website — aurelian.io and stop by our booth #2003 at APCO!

Joshua Gomes reacted on thisJoshua Gomes reacted on thisCompanies announce 100,000 GPU clusters. What they don't announce: the nodes that silently fail. The GPU that reports healthy but corrupts every gradient it touches. The network interface that drops packets just infrequently enough to evade your health checks. For the past 2 years, I've been working on SageMaker HyperPod — building the systems that detect, replace, and recover from hardware failures so that large-scale AI training doesn't fall apart at the seams. Some highlights: → Helped scale HyperPod's largest GPU cluster by detecting and replacing faulty nodes during scale-up in 2024. → Built EventBridge integration so customers get real-time visibility into node health — no more wondering why your training job failed at hour 47 → Partnered with EBS teams to enable cross-account volume attachment and persistent storage for ML workloads on Kubernetes → Co-authored an AWS blog on HyperPod security and storage → Got promoted from L5 to L6 SDE I wrote about all of it — the technical details, the unglamorous work, and the people who made it possible. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gaaVHYtH Grateful to Roshani Nagmote, Pavan Kumar Sunder, Caesar Chen, and the entire HyperPod Data Plane team. The quiet engineering matters. I'm writing about it more. #AWS #SageMaker #HyperPod #GPUInfrastructure #MachineLearning #DistributedSystems #Infrastructure

Joshua Gomes liked thisJoshua Gomes liked thisWe recently analyzed our own TrustedForm-certified leads in early part of March — and the results were eye-opening. Here’s what we found: 📊 Lead Quality Report Highlights 0.0% flagged as bots 0.0% copy/paste submissions 0.0% submissions under 1 second 99.5% U.S.-based traffic 88.8% low-friction (autofill) submissions Hidden Honeypot Questions We include hidden fields that real users never see. Bots often fill every field — if they answer these hidden questions, the lead is automatically disqualified. What does this mean? It means the vast majority of our leads are real humans, not bots or automation — but many are coming through low-friction experiences designed to increase conversion rates. This is an important distinction. Not all "autofill" leads are bad. In fact, today's consumers expect frictionless experiences. The key is balancing ease of submission with buyer intent. Here’s our takeaway: ✔️ Strong human traffic ✔️ No bot activity ✔️ Clean compliance signals ⚠️ Opportunity to increase intent with additional form interaction We're continuing to optimize our forms to improve: Contact rates Appointment rates Close rates Because lead quality isn’t just about volume — it's about verified human intent. If you're running paid traffic or buying leads, I highly recommend analyzing your TrustedForm metrics. The data tells a story most marketers never see. Curious what your lead quality actually looks like? Let's compare notes. #LeadGeneration #SolarLeads #PerformanceMarketing #TrustedForm #LeadQuality #DigitalMarketing #Compliance #MarketingAnalytics

Don't rely on "luck" for your Q2 event attendance. 🍀 With St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, there is a lot of talk about luck. But if you are planning a corporate workshop or a tech meetup in the GTA this spring, luck shouldn't be part of your strategy. As a marketer, I often hear organizers ask for that "magic button" to instantly boost ticket sales. Let’s be completely honest: That magic doesn't exist. A software platform doesn't sell your event; your content and your community do. But what an event platform should do is remove every single obstacle in the attendee's way. Organizers choose EventGo for their Q2 events because we don't deal in luck. We deal in frictionless experiences: ✨ We maximize visibility: We don't promise fake sales; we ensure your event page is optimized so more of the right professionals actually see it. ✨ We protect your brand: Our premium, modern design aesthetics ensure your digital invitation looks as high-end as your actual event. ✨ We eliminate drop-offs: A seamless, zero-friction checkout flow means you never lose a frustrated guest to a clunky webpage. Stop hoping for a packed room. Start building a frictionless path to the door.

We help Canadian businesses reduce upfront IT spend without sacrificing future growth. How? By using cloud-native patterns, pay-as-you-go infrastructure, and targeted MVPs. Low CapEx, high impact. Low CapEx, high impact. Start with cost levers: right-size compute, use managed services, automate deployments, and scope features to outcomes. Build an MVP that solves the core problem, then iterate. This lowers initial spend and speeds time-to-value. Example: a mid-market client launched a customer portal with a focused MVP. Initial cloud and engineering costs were cut by 60% vs. a full-build approach. Over three years we project a 35% lower TCO through autoscaling, serverless functions, and operational automation. Finance teams saw faster payback and clearer upgrade paths. Want to lower CapEx while keeping scale and flexibility? Let’s talk. https://wix.to/bH6Riip #DigitalTransformation #CloudEngineering #CostOptimization
