In response to the dissolution of the federal Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children (#ACHDNC), ACMG is moving forward with organizing a new advisory framework to fill the gap in #newbornscreening condition evidence reviews. We’ll be launching efforts by hosting a virtual stakeholder roundtable this summer to gather input on structure, function, and representation. Today, CMS released the Evaluation of the Maternal Opioid Misuse (MOM) Model Fourth Annual Report: https://lnkd.in/e8M32YnR. The CMS Innovation Center model supports families with Medicaid, promoting early intervention and whole-person care to improve health outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women with opioid use disorder and their babies. The model is slated to end in December 2025. Findings from the latest evaluation show that MOM: •           Improved care quality and addressed complex needs of beneficiaries •           Expanded access by broadening populations served, opening new clinics, and training providers Lessons learned from MOM have informed newer models Innovation in Behavioral Health (IBH) and Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH), including the use of peer support services to connect patients with individuals who faced similar challenges and can help navigate recovery. Beneficiary Advisory Councils (BACs) offer states a powerful way to help shape Medicaid policies and programs in collaboration with Medicaid members, families, and caregivers.   On October 22, panelists from Maine and North Dakota — representing Medicaid agencies, community-based organizations (CBOs), and Medicaid members — will share lessons on BAC structure, recruitment, and governance. These states participated in a Center for Health Care Strategies’ learning series that supported seven states in partnering with CBOs to build effective BACs. 🔗 https://bit.ly/3KeW8Lk

Rural areas face growing gaps in maternity care access. Federal grants like the Rural Maternity and Obstetrics Management Strategies (RMOMS) program help sustain maternity care, but a more permanent, nationwide solution would ease financial pressure. The Rural Obstetrics Readiness Act, a bipartisan bill, would provide federal grants for rural health providers, fund obstetric emergency training and create a pilot program for rural tele-obstetric networks. Without additional funding, low-volume hospitals are not going to deliver enough babies to keep obstetric units open, Daisy Goodman, DNP, a certified nurse-midwife at DHMC who oversees Dartmouth Health's RMOMS grant, told Modern Healthcare. “We need a multimodal [state and federal] approach to supporting these obstetric practices," she said. “Otherwise, we are just going to lose them.” https://lnkd.in/eB3pZwdk
