A lot of developers talk about Dockerization when discussing scalable systems. But one thing I’ve come to appreciate while working with ERPNext and the Frappe Framework is this: Frappe’s multi-tenancy is actually the bigger superpower. Dockerization is excellent for: • Packaging applications • Standardizing environments • Easier deployments • Infrastructure portability But multi-tenancy changes the economics of scale entirely. With a single Frappe bench, you can host multiple completely independent ERPNext sites where every tenant has: • Its own database • Its own files • Its own users and permissions • Its own business workflows Yet all of them share: ✅ The same application codebase ✅ The same running services ✅ The same infrastructure layer That efficiency is massive. Because with pure Docker isolation, spinning up 100 customers could mean: • 100 containers • 100 duplicated environments • 100 application instances to manage But with Frappe multi-tenancy: You can support many tenants intelligently from a centralized architecture without duplicating the entire stack repeatedly. That’s where operational efficiency starts becoming very interesting. At scale, this affects: ✅ Infrastructure costs ✅ Deployment speed ✅ Update management ✅ Resource utilization ✅ Operational overhead ✅ SaaS scalability Docker is powerful. But Docker alone does not solve SaaS efficiency. Multi-tenancy does. And this is one of the reasons I believe the Frappe Framework is architecturally underrated when people discuss scalable ERP systems. The deeper I go into ERPNext infrastructure, the more I realize: The real engineering challenge is not just deploying apps. What is Frappe Framework? Frappe is a full stack, batteries-included, web framework written in Python and Javascript with MariaDB as the database.
