We had a great turnout of banking and business professionals from 9 Caribbean countries at a recent trade finance workshop in St Kitts and Nevis co-hosted by IFC - International Finance Corporation and World Trade Organization. The overarching goal of this engagement was to help local banks enhance their trade finance portfolios and expand their correspondent banking networks, and for local businesses to gain greater access to trade finance. The workshop covered i) optimizing the use of trade finance instruments, ii) empowering local businesses through enhanced access to trade finance, and iii) combating trade-based money laundering. In St Kitts and Nevis and beyond, IFC’s goal is to create long-lasting relationships with financial institutions to help them better serve their local business communities in the critical area of trade finance. Trade finance is often the only external financing available to help local companies grow, thrive, and create much needed jobs. Thank you to all the participants and to everyone who helped make this such a successful event!
