  • World Rowing has today confirmed that the 2027 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals and Coastal Championships will be hosted in Oeiras, Portugal, with the 2028 edition awarded to Antalya, Türkiye, following a decision by the World Rowing Council. Both venues and organising committees bring proven experience and strong organisational credentials to the discipline of Coastal Rowing, having already successfully delivered the sport’s flagship event. Antalya hosted the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, while Oeiras welcomed the global Coastal Rowing community in 2021. The 2027 event in Oeiras will hold particular historic significance, as it will serve as the Olympic qualification regatta for the first-ever Olympic competition in the discipline of Beach Sprint Rowing, set to make its debut at the LA28 Olympic Games. With Olympic places on the line, the event is expected to mark a major milestone in the evolution of the discipline and attract unprecedented global attention. • World Rowing is proud to highlight the strong and growing momentum of Indoor and Connected Rowing following three major initiatives delivered in partnership with the Singapore Rowing Association and Sport Singapore: the World Rowing Super60 Singapore 2025, the Singapore National Indoor Rowing Championships, and the World Rowing Versa Challenge, held in Asia for the very first time. Together, these events signal a major step forward in expanding participation, performance pathways, and elite competition within Asia’s rapidly growing Indoor Rowing landscape. The Super60 featured three main initiatives: The mass-participation, Super 60 Challenge, where athletes had to row as far as possible in 60 seconds; The Singapore National Indoor Rowing Championships, with 500m, 2000m, and relay races being offered; and the World Rowing Versa Challenge, featuring 16 world-class athletes, including Singapore wild cards. • A few weeks ago, the 2025 World Rowing Championships ended on a high, with the thrilling introduction of the mixed double sculls and mixed eights. The introduction of mixed events outside of para-rowing proved a solid success, with good entries and some fascinating racing. It was interesting looking at the differing combinations and line-ups in the boats. Embark with Roos de Jong and Melvin Twellaar of the Netherlands as they give us premium access to their experience in the mixed double sculls in Shanghai.

  • Anyone still wondering just why beach sprints has been included in the Olympic programme for the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games needs only to watch back highlights of the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals 😍 On the bright blue Mediterranean waters off Antalya, Türkiye, 300 athletes gathered in search of medals, but also in search of that intangible beach sprint vibe which makes the discipline so fun to watch and to take part in. After four incredible days of racing, here’s the debrief. https://lnkd.in/d92hA7-W

  • World Rowing acknowledges the decision issued by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in relation to the case between World Rowing and Erik Horrie versus Giacomo Perini and the Italian Paralympic Committee, regarding the PR1 Men’s Single Sculls A-Final at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. While World Rowing fully respects the authority and the role of the CAS as the ultimate body for sports-related disputes, we respectfully, but strongly disagree with the outcome of this case.
