Creating a new energy future

About us

We are New Zealand's largest distributor of electricity and gas, owning and operating networks which span the Auckland region. Our vision is to create a new energy future, by identifying and developing solutions that provide customers with value, choice and reliability. We haven’t been afraid to challenge the status quo. As leaders of the transformation of the energy sector, we know the ‘same old’ just won’t cut it. We have the confidence to forge new solutions and for our people to work differently, to think differently. We have collaborated with global technology companies and thought leaders who share our view that innovation and digitalisation are key to meeting the future needs of energy systems and fast-evolving customer demands. As governments, businesses and consumers urgently take action to decarbonise, at Vector we are clear on our vision – creating a new energy future.

This week we held a live demo for the IEEE Power & Energy Society's Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC 2025) to show delegates how we’re using GridAware to strengthen the reliability of electricity supply for our customers. ⚡🔌 The demo builds on Vector’s partnership with X, The Moonshot Factory's Tapestry and highlights how tools like drones, AI, and machine learning are transforming electricity network management, maintenance and planning. Earlier this year, we shared data showing that GridAware has enabled our crews to inspect roadside power poles up to five times faster and reduced inspection times from 30–45 minutes per pole to just 5–7 minutes. It’s great to see more Kiwi lines companies, including Northpower, deploy GridAware. As more networks contribute data, the collective insights grow stronger, which improves asset management and resilience across the sector 💪 Peter Salatas | Jason Gray | Tim Morrison

✨A time of change here at Vector! On Friday, we farewelled Simon Mackenzie with a big send-off after 18 incredible years in charge. Today, it was all about welcoming - and this morning we were thrilled to give a very warm reception to our new chief executive, Chris Blenkiron. ✨ It was a great opportunity to introduce him to our special culture, our diversity, and the amazing people who make Vector what it is. We celebrated with music, taiko drumming (thank you to Kumo Taiko), and shared kai from a range of cultures across our team. 👏 Welcome, Chris and whānau, to Vector! We’re looking forward to getting to know you and working with you. #Welcome #NewCEO #Culture #Team

🏃♀️ Linking in nicely with the internal wellbeing event last Wednesday (see post below ⬇️ ), we also had the Corporate 5k Challenge in the Auckland domain! 📆 It’s become quite the tradition in the Vector sporting calendar, and every year, people talk about how great it is to mingle with our peers and meet new faces, away from our desks. This year was no different and it was awesome to see some of our biggest numbers yet - a team of 89 strong taking part. Whether running or walking, everyone was out there to get the body moving, enjoy the fresh air and share some laughs. 🏅 There were speedy podium finishers, personal bests set and team prizes brought back – well done to everyone! 👏 We say it every year, but it wouldn’t be a thing without the people who put in the extra effort behind the scenes - 📣 special shout out to Jamie Loveridge and Angela Doone for rallying the troops together, organising the catering and managing all event logistics for start to finish. 👩🍳 And chefs' hats off to Johan Oudegeest and Vinita Ram for being in charge of the bbq. 📸 Photo credit to Gokul Gnaneswaran

🌟Last week we took time to focus on our wellbeing at our internal “Pitstop to Power Up” event. An opportunity for us to pause, reflect, and reset. 🧠 Opening the event, we welcomed Dave Wood, a human performance specialist from WMW Integrated Training, who shared his experiences working as an intensive care paramedic and ocean lifeguard. He talked about the importance of stress recovery and how to sharpen performance and overall health. It was a powerful introduction that left us wanting to hear more. 🧘♂️ Next, it was time to explore four interactive wellbeing stations - move, mind, body, and balance - each linking back to our broader company benefits. There was a body-scanner, a meditation zone for mindfulness, balance boards, and switch-sport games that sparked some friendly competition. Everyone was also encouraged to write down at least one wellbeing action to integrate into their daily routine. 👏 What a great turnout and enthusiastic crowd! Thanks so much to everyone who came and got involved. Huge thanks to all the organisers for pulling it all together, and of course, Dave Wood - thank you for joining us and opening up the conversation. 📸 Thanks Gokul Gnaneswaran for the photos! #wellbeingatwork #culture #health #balance

  • 💜Vector Lights on the Auckland Harbour Bridge is shining purple tonight (17 November) alongside landmarks across the world, to raise awareness for World Prematurity Day. Every year in Aotearoa New Zealand, around 4,800 babies are born prematurely, and more than 1,000 full-term babies also require specialist neonatal care. That’s about one in ten Kiwi babies spending time in a NICU or SCBU. The Little Miracles Trust is here to support whānau on this journey – one that can be full of uncertainty, fear, and emotional strain. They do this in many ways, all designed to make a difficult start to life a little easier. The Little Miracles Trust relies on donations so they can continue to help. Please donate at littlemiraclestrust.org.nz to lend your support on World Prematurity Day. #vectorlights with Auckland Council and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | @The Little Miracles Trust

  • Last Wednesday, we partnered with She Sharp to host 'Future-Ready: Data, AI, Digital Innovation & Inclusive Careers at Vector'. It was an evening filled with incredible energy, innovation, and creativity. A few of the highlights included: 👩 💬 A standout panel of Vector women, including Karen Ip, Shona Irving, Adriana Yong and Evelyn Hunsberger, who shared honest, inspiring stories from their tech careers. 💡A fast-paced think-a-thon where teams pitched ideas for a crowdsourcing app – exploring how it could strengthen resilience during storms and evolve customer engagement. 🔗🗲 Seeing the power of connections in action; there were great conversations and the exchanging of ideas, leaving people feeling empowered and inspired. 👏 Big thank you to our executives, Mark Toner who MC’d the evening and Sarah Williams who starred in the mission setting video. Also hats off to Jenna Roake for organising it all alongside the She Sharp team, with support from the wider Vector teams including digital, communications and people. What an outstanding team effort! #WomeninTech #AI #Data #Innovation #Vector #SheSharp
