On 25 October, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) entered El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, #Sudan, unleashing a wave of violence in the city, documented by the United Nations. On 29 October, armed men attacked the El Fasher Maternity Hospital, killing at least 460 people, including patients, visitors and healthcare workers. The actual death toll may have been much higher. Many of those who could fled to Tawila, 50km away. It’s now home to more than 620,000 internally displaced people, living in terror and deprivation. Here are testimonies gathered via voicemail by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and its partners in Tawila, documenting the experience of civilians from El Fasher who survived the violence. All names have been changed to protect people’s safety. UNFPA and partners are providing life-saving reproductive health services, including antenatal, delivery and postnatal care, as well as dignity kits and psychosocial support — but needs are growing by the day. We call for: - an immediate ceasefire in El Fasher - unimpeded humanitarian access to reach all affected communities - safe passage for civilians seeking refuge. The world must not stand silent. #KeepEyesOnSudan #ENDviolence Photos: © UNFPA Sudan, © UNFPA/Sufian Abdulmouty
