The largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.
About us
PFLAG is an organization of LGBTQ+ people, parents, families, and allies who work together to create an equitable and inclusive world. We are hundreds of thousands of people and hundreds of chapters from coast to coast who are leading with love to support families, educate allies, and advocate for just, equitable, and inclusive legislation and policies. Since our founding in 1973, PFLAG works every day to ensure LGBTQ+ people everywhere are safe, celebrated, empowered and loved. Straight for Equality is an outreach and education program created in 2007 by PFLAG National to empower new allies who, unlike a more traditional PFLAG member, don’t necessarily have a family connection to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. Straight for Equality provides information, resources, and learning sessions that help allies understand their role in supporting and advocating for LGBTQ people, and make sure they have the opportunity to share their strong and powerful voices in support of equality.

2026 is the year of intersectional action. As the Trump administration continues to push its authoritarian agenda, the collective power of Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and all other marginalized peoples grows stronger, uniting as one unstoppable force in the pursuit of justice. The work of the Civil Rights Movement was the culmination of millions of Americans coordinating through powerful grassroots organization over the span of several years. It was not quick, it was not easy, and countless lives—including leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X—were lost in this fight. Though the ultimate goal of ending segregation was achieved, it is more clear than ever that the work for collective social justice is far from over. In the words of Angela Davis, Black lesbian civil rights activist, philosopher, and writer: “Justice is indivisible. You can't decide who gets civil rights and who doesn't.” This Black History Month, as every month, we rise in solidarity with our Black LGBTQ+ loved ones, and commit ourselves to the fight for intersectional justice.

Fun fact! Equality Florida, along with PFLAG supporters statewide, successfully blocked ALL anti-LGBTQ+ bills last session, thanks to grassroots efforts across Florida. This wasn’t just luck. It was people power—fueled by thousands of Floridians, who showed up, contacted lawmakers, and stood firm in every room of the Florida Capitol where these bills were debated every single day. The 2026 legislative session is underway, bringing with it new battles to fight. Over the past two weeks, incredible PFLAG chapters in Florida joined Equality Florida’s 2026 Pride at the Capital events including the 3rd Annual Let Us Live March. Join the fight. 🚨 ACTION ALERT: Tell Your Senators to reject ICE funding NOW! The U.S. Senate will vote on whether to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) soon. It is critical that you contact your U.S. Senators immediately and urge them to oppose any DHS funding package that includes funding for ICE. What is happening in Minneapolis and in communities across the country is unacceptable. Families are being torn apart. People are being terrorized in their homes, schools, and workplaces. This violence is not isolated—and it must not be tolerated. Tell Your Senators to reject ICE funding NOW at pflag.org/StopICEFunding 🚫🧊

"We are outraged by the news from Minneapolis where, on the heels of the murder of Renee Nicole Good, Alex Pretti's life was taken by ICE. Masked and unidentified agents are attacking protestors, taking people from their jobs and homes, and removing children from their schools and families. Everyone is someone's child, someone's loved one, and the people of Minneapolis and across the state and country deserve safety, fairness, and accountability, not fear and violence in their streets. Our hearts ache for the family and friends of Alex, for the trauma of children terrorized by cruel and heartless ICE actions, and for all those impacted and affected by this tragedy and by these violent and inhumane so-called immigration enforcement actions. Your pain matters and your voices are heard. The people of PFLAG—including our chapters in Minnesota—are committed to continue uplifting your calls for justice and humane treatment for all families and immigrant communities." —Dr. Edith Guffey (she/her) Chair, PFLAG National Board of Directors

📢 ACTION ALERT: The federal government is attempting to restrict funding for medically necessary healthcare for transgender youth. Last month, the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed two rules aimed at curtailing access by transgender youth to medically necessary care. One would condition Medicare and Medicaid funding on hospitals refusing to provide gender-affirming care to trans and nonbinary youth under 18, and the other would prohibit Medicaid and CHIP from covering this care for youth under 18 and 19, respectively. (Note: These proposals are NOT bans on medically necessary care and are NOT currently in effect.) Let’s leverage our collective voices and speak the truth that: Transgender people are REAL. Transgender people deserve AFFIRMING medical care. Healthcare for transgender people should be available WITHOUT government interference. Take action NOW and submit a public comment condemning these proposed rules by February 17 at 11:59 PM EDT. For more information, guidance and instructions on how to submit your comment, and a direct link to where you can make your voice heard, visit https://lnkd.in/g4SbBwFF 🗣️
