“Millions of older adults will go hungry if SNAP benefits stop on November 1. Not having enough nutritious food can lead to malnutrition and worsen chronic conditions," says Ramsey Alwin, President and CEO, National Council on Aging (NCOA) To qualify, individuals must earn less than $15,060 a year ($20,440 for two people)—a stark reminder of how many are living on the edge. With the poverty rate among older adults now at 15%, cutting food assistance isn’t just shortsighted—it’s dangerous. NCOA is urging policymakers to act swiftly to protect this critical lifeline and ensure no older adult goes hungry.
