September is #NationalRecoveryMonth, a time to recognize the power of recovery and the work being done to support individuals, families and communities affected by substance use. The opioid epidemic can create or compound civil legal issues involving housing, employment, health care, family stability and more. Legal aid plays an important role in helping people navigate these challenges. As part of LSC’s ongoing response to the opioid epidemic, our Opioid Task Force helped identify ways the civil legal aid community can better serve individuals and families affected by opioid use disorder. LSC’s opioid eLearning modules build on that work, giving legal aid attorneys a foundational understanding of the science of opioid use disorder and practical tools to recognize related legal issues. This #RecoveryMonth, build your knowledge and strengthen your advocacy. Explore the modules: https://lnkd.in/exJBxdpf

Ten years, more than 400 Fellows and over 14,300 rural community members reached. This summer, LSC and Equal Justice Works are celebrating a decade of the Rural Summer Legal Corps (RSLC), a partnership that connects law students with rural communities where access to legal resources is often limited. Continuing that legacy, the 2026 RSLC Student Fellows dedicated their summer to serving communities across 31 states and territories, helping address critical legal needs and expand access to justice. As we mark 10 years of RSLC, explore the gallery below for a look at this summer’s Fellows in action and the impact this program continues to have in rural communities nationwide. To help make programs like RSLC possible for years to come, visit www.lsc.gov/donate-now. #RuralJustice #RSLC #RuralSummerLegalCorps #RuralAmerica

The conversation also highlights how access to legal help can make a critical difference for people navigating complicated financial and legal systems. Veterans deserve access to the legal help they need to protect their health, stability and well-being. We’re proud to support Bay Area Legal Services as it expands that access through a new Medical-Legal Partnership with BAY PINES VA HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS, bringing free legal assistance directly to veterans and their families in North Pinellas County. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this partnership possible — and thank you for your continued commitment to serving those who served! #Veterans #VeteranSupport #MLP #MedicalLegalPartnership
On August 28, Bay Area Legal Services celebrated the launch of our fifth Medical-Legal Partnership with BAY PINES VA HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS, bringing access to free legal help to Veterans and their families in North Pinellas County. Nearly 70,000 Veterans call Pinellas County home. For those facing legal challenges, having access to legal support can be an important part of protecting their overall health and well-being. This new partnership brings that support directly into a familiar and trusted setting, creating pathways to justice for those who need it most. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate this milestone and to the many partners who helped make this new resource possible. Special thanks to our Board of Directors, Bay Pines VA, Legal Services Corporation and Col. Will Gunn, Kim Berfield for Florida House, Congressman Gus Bilirakis, The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs, and other community leaders for joining us. 🎖️ Learn more about the North Pinellas VA MLP: bit.ly/4qKyszP 📸 View the full photo album: bit.ly/4y3TM5u

Today marks the final day of Make-A-Will Month, but the need for legal planning for the future continues year-round. LSC-funded legal aid organizations across the country help older Americans plan their estates at no cost, protecting their wishes, securing their futures and providing peace of mind for them and their families. The numbers below show both the frequency of legal problems facing older Americans and the vital role civil legal aid plays in helping address them. #MakeAWillMonth #OlderAmericans #AccessToJustice
