❄️How to keep sports relevant all year long? Speaking on a panel at SportAccord IF Forum in Lausanne, ISU Director General Colin Smith shared insights on how the International Skating Union (ISU) is transforming digital engagement to maximise growth opportunities. The panel, entitled “Mind the Gap: How IFs Can Stay Relevant Year-Round", explored how International Federations can stay relevant beyond event peaks by leveraging marketing, storytelling, and culturally-driven strategies to strengthen brand identity and unlock new commercial value. Director General Smith highlighted three key opportunity areas the ISU has identified and turned into strategic levers. 1️⃣Off-Season Engagement - https://lnkd.in/eCD7U_t7 📌 Strategy: Always-on content strategy with athlete stories, partner campaigns, and skater collaborations. 📊 Impact (2025 vs. 2024): • 26.5M impressions (+181%) • ~900K engagements (+18%) • 3.3% engagement rate 2️⃣ Cultural Relevance - https://lnkd.in/e4C9hdsr 📌 Strategy: Localized social media content strategy in Asia, including creator partnerships, and region-specific campaigns across platforms like Naver, LINE, Douyin, WeChat, Weibo, and Bilibili. 📊 Impact (2025 vs. 2024): • +30% followers in China • +347% engagement • 2M+ impressions in Korea 3️⃣ Olympic Cycle Momentum - https://lnkd.in/exuwFhNt 📌 Strategy: Strategic editorial partnerships, interactive digital experiences, and campaigns like “Skate to Milano” to maintain momentum between Games. 📊 Impact: Fans stay connected with athletes and events, building year-round engagement and brand loyalty. 💡 Key takeaway: "It's about reducing the troughs and raising the peaks," said Colin Smith. “By combining personal athlete stories, culturally relevant content, and branded collaborations, the ISU is keeping skating relevant, accessible, and engaging all year long.” This approach is in line with the ISU Vision 2030, guiding the organization’s modernization and transformational journey. #MindTheGap #FanEngagement #SportsMarketing #DigitalStrategy #IFForum #SportAccord
The Olympic Museum in Lausanne is buzzing with more visionary discussions on the last day of IF Forum 2025. Three impactful sessions took place this morning exploring how International Federations can build year-round engagement, learn from the past, and anticipate change to stay agile and future-ready. "The future of sport will be faster, more intelligent, more connected and more complicated. It will dazzle and distract in equal measure. It will offer more access, insight, interaction, pressure, noise and choices. But if you do it right, if you keep the fan at the centre, the athlete protected, the values clear, and the experience human, then sports best days may still lie ahead. The ISU reaffirmed its commitment to integrity and athlete safeguarding at the 5th International Forum for Sports Integrity hosted by the IOC. ISU President and IOC Member Jae Youl Kim and ISU Director General Colin Smith joined leaders across sport to share how we are building a safer, fairer environment for skaters worldwide. Safeguarding, a pillar of ISU Vision 2030 President Kim outlined our multi-layered approach to athlete well-being: Foundation: ISU Athlete Safeguarding Policy and updated Code of Ethics, plus a full-time Safeguarding Officer. Awareness: Open dialogue at ISU Congress with voices like Kirsty Burrows and Olympic medalist Gracie Gold. Member action: +20% annual funding for safeguarding. Over one third of ISU Members have established frameworks and designated Safeguarding Leads. Collaboration: Partnerships with United Against Online Abuse, Athlete365, UNICEF, SAYES and others. Online abuse: Testing an AI-driven moderation program this season. Real-time removal for high-risk athletes and twice-daily monitoring for a wider group. What’s next: Proposal for an independent Skating Integrity Unit elected by Members, expansion of ISU Calm Zones at major events, more education for the skating community and a stronger speak-up culture. AI for accuracy, fairness and better storytelling Director General Colin Smith shared how technology supports integrity in officiating: By discipline: Timing precision in Speed Skating. VAR support in Short Track. In Figure Skating, high-resolution cameras and added accountability free Judges to focus on quality of execution and artistry. Computer Vision pilots: Multi-camera systems that learn movements to deliver precise technical data for the Technical Panel and richer broadcast graphics for fans. Data-driven judging quality: A new global evaluation system analyzing 600k+ element marks across 62 events and 460 judges to identify top officials and guide training for consistency worldwide. We are grateful to the IOC and the IFSI community for advancing this vital agenda. Integrity is not a one-time measure. It is a culture we build together. #SportsIntegrity #SafeSport #AthleteWelfare #Vision2030 #FigureSkating #ShortTrack #SpeedSkating #AIinSport #GoodGovernance #OlympicMovement #IFSI #IOC #ISU Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehWMNZTE

On #WorldMentalHealthDay, the ISU reaffirms its commitment to athlete wellbeing — a key pillar of the ISU Vision 2030. 🧠⛸️ Building on the success of the Calm Zones at major events, the ISU is expanding the program and introducing social media monitoring to protect athletes from online harassment — ensuring support both on and off the ice. “With Calm Zones at our events and comprehensive digital protection, we’re turning plans into action,” said ISU President Jae Youl Kim. Athletes have embraced these safe spaces — including at the Short Track World Tour in Montréal, where Kornelia Wozniak shared: "The idea of a Calm Zone at the venue is really nice. Athletes get stressed, it is a high pressure situation. I definitely get anxious before I am racing, so it is fun to relax." #WorldMentalHealthDay #ISU #Vision2030 #AthleteWellbeing #Safeguarding #FigureSkating #SpeedSkating #ShortTrackSkating #SynchroSkating
