Melbourne, Australia: Gregory Rice, Director | Sustainability - Australia + New Zealand, has some key takeaways from a Property Council of Australia workshop on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).

As the property sector continues to evolve, it's clear that Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations are no longer a nice-to-have, but an ethical, and responsible approach to development. At a recent training event hosted by the Property Council of Australia, industry experts discussed the importance of integrating ESG into property development and asset management. Some key takeaways from the workshop include: 🌏 *Decisions based on Carbon*: Achieving net-zero carbon emissions is a crutial focus for the industry, with strategies including energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and sustainable materials. Whole of life carbon is becoming mainstream. 🌏 *Climate Resilience*: Developers and asset managers must prioritize climate risk assessments and incorporate resilient building designs to mitigate the effects of climate change. Existing assets are at risk. 🌏 *Social Responsibility*: Fostering inclusive, equitable, and diverse strategies is essential, with a focus on affordable housing, community engagement, and social initiatives. 🌏 *Transparent Reporting*: Robust ESG measurement frameworks and transparent reporting are crucial for stakeholders, including tenants and investors, and organisation leaders - proving the importance of ESG at the forefront of decision making. Remember - we're only here for a short period of our Earth's existence. We should preserve as much as we can - environmentally and socially. It is everyone's responsibility to do good, and to make informed decisions. Not just the sustainability professionals. #ESG #Sustainability #Property #RealEstate #NetZero #ClimateResilience #SocialResponsibility #Transparency
