Transition-related healthcare is lifesaving healthcare. And this isn’t something we’ve just learned: Decades of research and lived experiences make it clear that for so many in our trans community, access to this evidence-based care is what has allowed them to live and thrive as their true, authentic selves. But Donald Trump doesn’t agree. His administration has been unrelenting in its attacks on transgender people. This week, they issued a final rule that seeks to place lifesaving healthcare out of reach for some of our most marginalized youth. Bottom line: No child deserves to go through this. The most important thing we can do for transgender and gender-expansive kids is SPEAK UP. In this second installment of the Journey Series, members of HRC's Parents for Transgender Equality Council (PTEC) discuss how their personal journeys evolved into advocacy and allyship. Parents share what inspired them to speak out, the work they've done in schools and state legislatures, and why so many moms have found themselves on the front lines of the fight for equality. They also offer an important message to fathers and other potential allies about the critical role they can play in supporting transgender and gender-expansive youth.
