NEW REPORT: Boosted by Trump Administration, LNG Industry Violates Pollution Limits At a time when the Trump Administration is trying to expedite approvals for a wave of new LNG export terminals, a review of public records shows the industry has a poor track record of complying with its existing air and water pollution control permits. A report by the Environmental Integrity Project (EIP), “Terminal Trouble: Pollution Violations at America’s LNG Export Terminals,” shows that all seven of the LNG export terminals that were fully operational at the end of 2024 violated the Clean Air Act over the last five years. EIP’s report also found that five of the seven LNG terminals exceeded their water pollution control permits over this period, dumping into waterways illegal amounts of suspended solids, bacteria, zinc, copper, oil and grease, among other pollutants, according to public records. “Given the LNG industry’s poor compliance record, state and federal agencies should be slowing down and more carefully scrutinizing new permit applications instead of speeding up permit reviews,” said Jen Duggan, Executive Director of the Environmental Integrity Project. “There is no ‘energy emergency,’ and fast-tracking approvals for LNG terminals puts the health of local communities, ecosystems, and the climate at risk.” Read the report: https://lnkd.in/e8Q7rAwK #news #breakingnews #report #lngterminals #environmentaljustice

According to a report by the World Meteorological Organization, 2024 saw the largest increase in atmospheric CO2 concentrations recorded since modern measurements began in 1957 – 3.5 parts per million, to a total of 424 ppm. Scientists say rising CO2 levels stem from fossil fuel burning and severe wildfires. They also warn that Earth’s carbon sinks are weakening because oceans are absorbing less CO2, and deforestation means fewer plants are left to remove the gas from the atmosphere. The record CO2 surge is a clear warning that the world must take climate change even more seriously by cutting fossil fuel use and restoring Earth’s natural carbon sinks. https://lnkd.in/drsMvQpy #news #breakingnews #environment #CO2 #climatechange #globalwarming #fossilfuels #pollution

The Trump Administration continues to cut tax credits for clean energy projects while adding to longstanding subsidies for fossil fuels. When questioned about the move and the government's support for fossil fuels, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that “renewables should compete with traditional forms of energy on a level playing field” and "there are not oil and gas subsidies." According to Fossil Fuel Subsidy Tracker, oil/gas and coal interests in the U.S. received more than $16 billion in subsidies in 2023. According to a recent report from Oil Change International, including existing fossil fuel subsidies, the U.S. federal government will subsidize the production of oil, gas, and coal by at least $34.8 billion per year in coming years. The administration can’t deny fossil fuel subsidies exist. Cutting clean energy credits while boosting oil and gas support shows where their true priorities lie, and it’s not in the best interests of the American people. WEBINAR: Pathways for Industry and Agriculture to Reduce N2O Emissions from Synthetic Fertilizer Synthetic nitrogen fertilizer is essential to modern agriculture, but it is often overlooked in climate conversations and remains an underrecognized driver of climate change. Nitrous oxide (N₂O), released during both the production and application of fertilizer, is nearly 300 times more potent than CO₂, with emissions. Today, the U.S. is the world’s fourth-largest producer of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers. By 2030, domestic production of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers is expected to quadruple. Join us Thursday, 11/13, for an essential webinar exploring "Nitrous Oxide: A Hidden Threat"—a new report by McKnight Foundation and Regenerative Agriculture Foundation. The report’s four authors highlight common-sense solutions to reduce N₂O emissions that center farmers and cross-sector collaboration. Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of how agriculture and climate partners can help catalyze action toward ambitious 2035 and 2050 reduction goals. BREAKING NEWS: Community, Health, and Environmental Groups Sue to Stop President Trump’s Unlawful Toxic Air Pollution Exemptions Community, health, and environmental groups sued the Trump administration today to stop an executive action that would unlawfully exempt 50 of the country’s most toxic chemical manufacturing plants from protections that guard people against dangerous cancer-causing air pollutants, including ethylene oxide and chloroprene. The lawsuit challenges the Trump administration’s efforts to exempt companies from EPA’s Hazardous Organic National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, known as the HON Rule, by delaying compliance by two years beyond the current 2026 and 2027 deadlines. This administration’s unlawful and unprecedented use of these exemptions endangers the health of communities in 13 states, including Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. “We know that these facilities emit even more cancer-causing pollution than EPA assumed, so the fenceline monitoring is extremely important,” said Abel Russ, Senior Attorney at the Environmental Integrity Project. “People living in the shadow of these facilities deserve to know what they are breathing, and how much.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eB7RSv-S #news #breakingnews #EPA #airpollution #publichealth #hazardousair #pollution #lawsuit

The Senate is set to confirm industry lobbyist Douglas Troutman to lead EPA’s chemical safety office. His appointment would mean that all four top toxics offices at EPA are now occupied by former chemical lobbyists, alarming advocates over public, consumer, and worker health protections. Troutman, former chief lobbyist for the American Cleaning Institute which represents BASF, Dow, and Procter & Gamble, is currently an EPA adviser and has indicated he will likely align with the administration’s deregulatory agenda if confirmed to lead the agency’s chemical safety office. Appointing a former chemical lobbyist to lead the EPA’s chemical safety office is alarming. The agency should protect public health by strengthening chemical safety protections, not appointing those with industry ties to provide oversight of chemical companies. https://lnkd.in/eS6Mbr2d #news #breakingnews #trump #EPA #EPAWatch #publichealth #chemicalsafety #chemicals

Coal miners say the Trump administration has neglected their safety by failing to protect them from black lung disease, an incurable illness caused by coal and silica dust exposure, which has contributed to a recent surge in cases. While the mining industry groups sue to block the rule, enforcement of federal silica dust limits has been paused, leaving workers waiting months for protections to take effect. They have also accused the administration of ignoring workers, while providing millions in federal subsidies to companies operating coal plants and mining operations. Trump claims to stand with coal miners, yet his administration’s actions say otherwise. https://lnkd.in/eAkMHuYX #news #coalmining #coal #Trump #pollution #lungdisease #diseases #publichealth

Harris County, home to Houston, filed a federal lawsuit against the EPA following the Trump Administration’s move to roll back more than $250 million secured for solar energy initiatives in Texas. The solar program was intended to fund clean energy initiatives for low-income households across the state, create job growth, and establish community hubs powered by solar energy reserves in the event of power outages. The program was backed by a $7 billion clean energy fund signed by former President Biden. Removing funding meant for solar projects hurts low-income communities, job growth, and clean energy progress. EPA can’t legally revoke funding that’s already been awarded, and must be held accountable for this unlawful move. https://lnkd.in/eu6sWysJ #news #breakingnews #EPA #EPAWatch #environmentaljustice #publichealth #lawsuit #solar #cleanenergy

Since Trump took office, numerous senior EPA staff have resigned or been removed, while the administration has gutted the EPA website and rolled back key protections—undoing years of progress toward transparency, public engagement, and stronger environmental safeguards. Former EPA Region 2 Administrator Lisa Garcia, who helped launch EJScreen, told Inside Climate News it may be time to rethink how to advance environmental justice by focusing on shared health risks and benefits to bring more communities on board. Losing many experienced EPA leaders like Lisa Garcia is a major setback. With the agency weakened, communities will have to depend on grassroots environmental justice groups and allies to push for accountability and drive meaningful environmental change. https://lnkd.in/esNU2DVz #news #breakingnews #EPA #EPAWatch #environmentaljustice #EJSCREEN #staff #layoffs #publichealth
