Before young children can regulate themselves, they need regulated adults—and the early childhood educators who care for them are stretched thin. According to the 2024 RAND American Pre-K Teacher Survey, Pre-K teachers experience workplace stress at nearly twice the rate of adults in comparable occupations. Join Center for the Collaborative Classroom for an edWebinar that will equip early childhood educators and leaders with both the research foundation and the practical tools to build regulation into their environments, routines, and relationships. • A teacher and students do an activity involving colorful wooden blocks at a low table.
  • Walk into a K–5 Collaborative Literacy classroom and you’ll hear the hum of lively, active, intentional conversation. In our program, students are discussing texts, explaining their thinking, citing evidence, listening to different perspectives, and building on one another’s ideas. Through discussion, students build knowledge, deepen comprehension, and develop the language they need to read, write, speak, and think independently. #LiteracyInstruction #StudentDiscourse #ClassroomConversation

In 60 years, John L. argues, only two books have had lasting influence on how the field studies and teaches reading: Chall in 1967, Adams in 1990. Both were about decoding. This week he made the case that a third belongs on that shelf: The Canon of Literacy, written by my co-founder Paige C. Pullen. Bias disclosed. Here's why Lloyd is right. Good instruction sits at the intersection of three sciences. What we teach. How students learn. Which practices work. Knowing what to teach without knowing how learning happens produces content nobody retains. Knowing how learning happens without knowing which practices work produces theory nobody can use. The three only pay off together. That integration is what the field never had. We measured it, with the Early Learning Coalition of Palm Beach County, Inc. and in rural Georgia with Georgia Southern University, so coaching could aim at something real. How prepared an educator feels tells you little about what they can do. Not because educators misjudge themselves, but because few systems ever gave them a mirror. Knowing more isn't the same as doing differently. That takes materials, practice, feedback, and data on your own students in time to act on it. The book integrates the evidence into one standard. Legislation can mandate the science of reading, and much of it has. Delivering it takes teachers with the right support. That is the system we're building.

  • Stetson Elementary in Colorado’s District 49 faced a challenge familiar to many schools: Incredibly dedicated teachers cannot support all students without a systematic, consistent intervention model.  Knowing that SIPPS was a successful program that was already used within the building and confident that they would see change in the school, Stetson chose to train all of their teachers in SIPPS, knowing that some of the SIPPS routines could also be used with their core program. They discovered through this implementation that SIPPS provides a vertical alignment and common vocabulary that helps with a variety of teaching skills.  https://lnkd.in/eBTf-xYx

  • Many children enter kindergarten having been drilled on letters and numbers, yet struggle with the social, emotional, and cognitive demands of the classroom. Are we rushing early skill mastery at the expense of true kindergarten readiness? What are the strongest predictors of long-term school and life success? 🧠 We are glad to spotlight this crucial conversation on early childhood pedagogy and how we can provide enrichment to deepen learning within developmentally appropriate boundaries. Join Dr. Nereyda M. Hurtado, Emily Vener, and Dr. Lenora Forsythe as they explore why horizontal enrichment and high-quality interactions produces stronger, more sustainable outcomes than traditional academic pushdown in early learning settings. If you're an administrator, coach, or educator looking to protect developmentally appropriate practices while driving strong student outcomes, this edWebinar is for you. ➡️ Register for free & earn a CE certificate: https://lnkd.in/gU_D-AvP #EarlyChildhood #EdWebinar #TeacherCommunity #EarlyLearning #KindergartenReadiness #QualityInteractions #ECE #PlayBasedLearning
