Ever wonder where your water fees go? Providing water in Bear Valley Springs is complicated and, unfortunately, expensive. The CSD Water Division operates and maintains more than 100 miles of water pipelines in addition to wells, pumps, fire hydrants, and other infrastructure. Due to significant elevation differences across the valley, the CSD also has 36 booster stations operating around the clock to move water uphill and ensure homes at our highest elevations have reliable water supplies and pressure. Maintaining a reliable water system requires significant ongoing investment. Most of our pipes haven't been replaced since they were installed decades ago, contributing to significant leak issues across the valley. Recent water fee adjustments will help cover ongoing operating costs while also providing funding for critical infrastructure maintenance and replacement in the years ahead. We encourage residents to take a look at the flyer to learn more about what goes into delivering water to your home.

When you bring waste to the Bear Valley Transfer Station, please remember to sort your waste before you arrive. The newest requirement, mandated by California’s SB 1383, is separating organic waste from regular trash and recycling. Organic waste includes food scraps, meat, fish and poultry, dairy products, bread, pasta, rice, grains, coffee grounds, and food-soiled paper products. Dedicated bins for organic waste are now in place at the Transfer Station. Please place each type of waste in its designated area: -Organic Waste -Recycling -Regular Trash For organics, please use paper bags or cardboard boxes only. Plastic and compostable bags are not accepted in the organics carts. For recyclables, place them directly into the recycling bin - do not bag them. A little preparation at home makes disposal easier for everyone. Please sort your waste before heading to the Transfer Station.

The Bear Valley CSD has started work to install a new generator at the entrance gate. The upgraded system will better allow us to maintain operations during power outages, most notably by including an automatic transfer switch. This means the generator will automatically turn on when power is interrupted, instead of requiring gate staff to manually start it. There will be some minor traffic interruptions over the next three weeks during construction. We will send alerts via Nixle, the gate marquee, the CSD’s website, and social media when significant traffic disruptions are expected. Please drive slowly through the gate in both directions and pay attention to directions from flaggers and temporary traffic signs. Thank you for your patience as we complete this project.

Today, August 7, the Bear Valley Community Services District joins communities across the nation in recognizing Purple Heart Day and honoring U.S. service members who were wounded or killed in action. We are grateful to the brave men and women who have sacrificed in service to our country and our freedoms. In February 2024, the Bear Valley CSD formally designated Bear Valley Springs as a Purple Heart Community in recognition and support of our wounded veterans. Following the designation, a group of resident volunteers came together to create the Purple Heart Honor Garden, located just inside the gate. The Honor Garden was officially unveiled in July 2025 and provides a place for our community to recognize and remember those who have received the Purple Heart. Today, we remember their service and sacrifice and thank all of our Purple Heart recipients for their dedication to our country.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our "Ask the Chief" Town Hall last night! Bear Valley Police Chief Dain Hurst spent an hour and a half answering residents' questions and addressing concerns on topics including enforcement of the California Vehicle Code, upcoming enforcement of the District Code regarding golf carts, the future of the Bear Valley Police Department, and more. Kern County Public Works will be hosting a free Bulky Waste Collection Event in Tehachapi on Saturday, July 25, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will be held at the Waste Management Yard, 416 North Dennison Road.

The Bear Valley CSD Office will be closed on Friday, July 3, in honor of Independence Day. The Transfer Station will be open Friday, July 3, under normal hours, and will be closed Saturday, July 4. Happy Independence Day!
