New storytelling formats and in-depth investigations: Yesterday, the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalism has been presented for the 35th time. At the award ceremony in Berlin, the Axel Springer Academy of Journalism & Technology honored outstanding early-career journalists whose work is distinguished by investigative rigor, societal relevance, and innovative storytelling. The award was presented in five categories: Politics & Business, Report, Podcast, Innovation, and Entertainment. Miriam Krekel, Head of the Axel Springer Academy of Journalism & Technology: “Especially in times of growing uncertainty and rapid change, we need journalism that provides orientation, but also inspires confidence and builds trust. This year’s award winners demonstrate how this can be achieved—with courage, innovation, and a commitment to investigative research and to making complex topics understandable and accessible. In doing so, they make an important contribution to an informed society.” In addition, Italian journalist Cecilia Sala received the George Weidenfeld Prize in recognition of her courageous international reporting from crisis regions, where she provides insight into complex conflicts and amplifies diverse perspectives.
