  • ADI is delighted to announce our second annual End of Year Forecast, this year exploring the crucial topic of diagnostics and posing the question: are we ready for the diagnostic revolution? Taking place on 10 December, ADI CEO, Paola Barbarino, will be joined by special guest, renowned cognitive neurologist and Medical Director at the Banner Sun Health Research Institute, Dr Alireza Atri, to discuss insights into the global trends, challenges and opportunities shaping the Alzheimer’s diagnostic landscape. Register today: https://bit.ly/470vPl1 With the introduction of blood-based biomarkers, we must ask what the implications are for the diagnosis pathway. The potential for low-cost, less invasive and much earlier diagnosis is challenging our very definition of the condition and our response. Alongside the science, this raises ethical, psychological and emotional questions. How will healthcare systems respond in terms of education, training and preparedness? Will it revolutionise clinical trial participation? What are the implications for specialists? How must scanning technologies respond? and how must information provision, advice and support adapt to this new world? Be sure to register and join us for this livestreamed event as we seek to answer these crucial questions, as well as answer questions from the audience online and inside the room. #ADIForecast #AlzheimersTreatments #HealthWebinar #Dementia

  • ADI CEO Paola Barbarino has opened the 12th Lausanne Dialogues (XII), an annual event supported by the CEOi - Global CEO Initiative on Alzheimer's Disease, in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Disease International, the OECD - OCDE and the World Economic Forum. The forum brings together industry leaders, clinicians, specialists, researchers, regulators and experts in multiple fields, debating, discussing and challenging this new era around diagnostics, treatment and health system readiness. “Over the past twelve years, we have had the privilege of co-hosting these discussions. Each dialogue has brought new experiences, deeper expertise and invaluable learnings for all of us - we are now at a critical time, with treatment and diagnostic breakthroughs. There is a sense of hope, with renewed confidence in research and groundbreaking innovation but this has to translate, at speed, into best practice.” She also highlighted the challenges posed by reduced choice and accessibility due to inconsistencies between regulators, as well as funding cuts to research and to the WHO. We look forward to sharing further insights from these two days of important dialogue #LausanneXII

Join us for our webinar, ‘Dementia Research In Action: from trials to treatments’ at 1pm GMT on 13 November. • Brazil moves closer towards the development of its first National Dementia Plan! Last week saw the successful meeting of the 1st International Seminar on Public Policies in Dementia in #Brazil, organised by the ABRAz Associação Brasileira de Alzheimer (ABRAz) and PAHO/WHO, with the support of the Federação Brasileira das Associações de Alzheimer (FEBRAz), ADI’s member association in Brazil, a two-day seminar that brought together government officials, researchers, and civil society leaders to discuss the critical steps of securing the endorsement of the Ministry of Health so that the Plan can be formally developed, funded, and implemented across the country. Representing ADI, Diego Aguilar, Regional Director for the Americas, highlighted the opportunity to frame dementia as a key noncommunicable disease priority to strengthen public-health action and ensure continuity in Brazil’s next policy steps. ADI commends ABRAz, FEBRAz, Elaine Mateus, PAHO/WHO Brazil, and the Ministry of Health of Brazil for their continued leadership and collaboration towards the endorsement and development of Brazil’s National Dementia Plan. #DementiaPolicy #NationalDementiaPlan #Brasil

Global Civil Society Leader | Regional Director

🇧🇷 Brazil takes another major step toward its first National Dementia Plan This week in Brasília, I joined government officials, researchers, and civil society leaders at the 1st International Seminar on Public Policies in Dementia, organized by ABRAz and PAHO/WHO, with the support of Federação Brasileira das Associações de Alzheimer, ADI’s member association in Brazil. Brazil has reached a key milestone through the recent 'pactuação' — a national consensus led by the Dementia Coaliton (CONADE) that sets the foundation for developing the country’s first National Dementia Plan, aligned with the WHO Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia (2017–2031). What comes next is just as crucial: securing the endorsement of the Ministry of Health so the Plan can move from consensus to action — with funding, structure, and measurable results for families across the country. Representing Alzheimer's Disease International, I shared reflections on positioning dementia as a noncommunicable disorder priority to strengthen public-health responses and ensure continuity in national planning. Government representatives from Mexico and Chile also shared their experiences developing national dementia policies — showing how regional collaboration can accelerate progress for all. Brazil’s leadership and commitment are inspiring. Once the Plan is endorsed and developed, it will not only benefit millions of Brazilian families — it will also serve as a powerful model for the entire Americas region. Muito obrigado Elaine Mateus Celene Queiroz Pinheiro de Oliveira Eduardo Zimmer Leandro Minozzo Alexandre Padilha Mariangela Batista Galvao Simao Paulo Caramelli
