A new initiative in Nozawa Onsen! Readers probably know that Uber taxi-gigging is being rolled out slowly across Japan, starting with Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Yokohama, and major airports. And now (after a low-key limited test last year) in our wonderful village! It’s just for the winter season, and limited to Iiyama (where the Shinkansen station is) and the other near resorts… but what a great initiative for a tiny village in the mountains.

Well, the winter season has started well… lovely snow conditions at the top, very happy guests, and still at low season rates. The season seems to start a little earlier each year as guests realise what great value the last week or two of the low season can be!

I’d urge extreme caution to all PRC travelers considering Japan travel. It’s autumn and the fallen leaves can be very slippery. Many “cash-only” restaurants won’t even make an exception for UnionPay. There have been reports of the Yamanote line experiencing occasional delays. And then of course there are the bears… Really, I just wouldn’t risk it. Your local Kura Sushi is a much safer way to get your Japan fix. https://lnkd.in/gdb_kpaN

Nice to see Conde Naste (a US-based "how-to-spend-it" magazine), lead its story on the world's best places to ski, with a lovely photo of Nozawa Onsen, and a mention of our Address Nozawa as a place to stay. The article itself could do with a bit of fact-checking (www.nozawahospitality.com is where to get your accurate info!), but great to see our village getting even more global visibility. https://lnkd.in/g5_cnzDX

Most of us aren’t thinking about skiing, in mid-August. But ski mountains are! Mountain resorts like Nozawa Onsen start preparing in the summer, so their winter guests can have a great experience on the winter mountains.

Nozawa Onsen looks after its future visitors well. For example, every year, it hosts a school trip from a Tokyo primary school, teaching the children about the mountain, forestry… and getting them to plant trees that they can come revisit over the future decades!
