King & the Klan: a Visual Experience
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke at Reynolds Coliseum at NC State University on July 31, 1966. In response to his upcoming visit, the Ku Klux Klan staged an 1,800-person march through downtown Raleigh. In this digital installation crafted by Dr. Margaret Baker and Dr. Jason Miller, students were able to view newly discovered footage of Dr. King and previously undeveloped photographs of the KKK march. Voices of the Russell School
A multifaceted project that brought together members of the local community with the Libraries, the College of Education, and DELTA to present the history and voices of the Historic Russell School, a Rosenwald School built in 1926 in Durham County, North Carolina.

Hall of GIFs
Among the most ubiquitous design elements in the early online community Geocities was the animated GIF, which imbued many pages with a frantic (and often comical) dynamism that became a hallmark of early web design. The Hall of GIFs celebrates the creativity and cultural diversity that thrived within these primitive fan and interest websites.

"Mason": An Adventure Platforming Game for the Visualization Studio
"Mason" is an action-adventure video game demo made by NC State alumnus RJ Washington and adapted specifically for the Visualization Studio at the D. H. Hill Jr Library. In this 360-dregree adaption of Mason, users are surrounded by the game environment, with the titular character remaining in the center of the screen as the world moves around the player.

Showcasing Student Creativity via Holograms
To exhibit student and campus community creativity, the Libraries' Virtual Reality staff have utilized 3D digital displays (or 'holograms') within our buildings. These light field displays allow a better understanding of the creativity, scholarship, and interaction possible via natively 3D media.

Beyond the Barricades, Reimagined
This project offers a reimagined visualization of anti-apartheid photography published during the heights of state brutality in South Africa. Utilizing the Visualization Studio at the Hill Library, viewers may wander in this digital exhibition to see and experience the memory of apartheid through stories of South African resistance.

In the Writing: Personal Letters of African American Leaders from the Mark E. Mitchell Collection
A pop-up exhibit displaying rare, personal letters of African American historical figures revealing their unknown interconnectedness and conveying that their "revolutions" were catalyzed not in solitude but collaboration.

Virtual Martin Luther King, Jr. Project (vMLK)
The Virtual MLK Project is an immersive digital experience of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s "A Creative Protest (Fill Up the Jails)" speech which was delivered at White Rock Baptist Church in Durham, NC in February 1960. The project is displayed in virtual reality, large scale video walls, immersive audio, and a simulation experience.
